100 mph in second?
My brother has a 97 Lude with basic bolt-ons. The other night he was going around 90 when he tried to down shift into 4th, and he hit second. He blames the DC short shifter. Any way all the check engine lights came on, and then the car shut down. The car still runs, but the engine kind of shakes and some times cuts out. The engine isn't smoking, but the exhaust smells too much like gas. We changed the plugs and wires, hoping for fouled plugs, but no luck. Any ideas???? How much will it cost to get it fixed????
The DC sports shift adapter would make it HARDER to do that.
the part only shortens the front-back throw, not the left-right. With the DC sports adapter, you have to go the same distance to the left to hit 4th, but just a shorter distance down... in essence, you have to move down & left at an even sharper angle then you do with the stock shifter. He can only blame himself.

He wasn't going over 100mph. If he was, he would have a rod sitting in the seat beside him.
Now my girlfriend went from 5th to second in my car at 100-105. Yes, mph. My tach was over in the speedometer. The needle went from 6,000rpm to 30mph. lol Everything lived but the pressure plate.
Anyway, on a stock motor, he floated his valves and the valves hit the pistons. They're more than likely all bent to hell... ok, they ARE all bent to hell, and he'll need to have the head pulled, and have them all replaced. He's going to need to check the pistons to make sure that they don't have scarring or burs on them now.

How much do you think it will cost to fix it? What has to be replaced, Springs,retainers.... By the way he doesn't directly blame the short shifter. I am prettty sure he knows that it his fault. He needs to get it fixed so I can smoke his doors off in my R.
Thanks

well, if he goes stock, then he needs new valves. If he's smart, he'll add Crower valve springs and retainers, and some stainless steel valves while it's apart.
Regular valves might run $100. But labor will kill him. Looking at between $600-$1000 just to pay a mechanic to do it.
