I use mine whenever...
1) The bike is going to be out of commission for a while.
2) I need to remove the wheels.
3) I want to look like a pro-racer in the pits.

i use my rear stand when i change oil, changing tires, cleaning chain, pretty much anytime im working on bike i like a rear stand. i use my cherry picker for the front just when im changing tires.

Is there any benefit with the stands over the kickstand? I was thinking about getting a pair. I try and only ride my bike 1 or 2 days a week to keep the miles low.

a bike on two stands has far less chances on falling on it's side.

I also use stands as a daily way to park my bike... it only takes a few extra seconds to put a bike up on the rear stand.

I figured as much. The first day I had my bike and put it on the kickstand I didn't get a warm and fuzzy feeling that it was very secure.

Re: When do you use stands? (95ProjectEJ1)
1. oil changes
2. chain maintenance
3. safer than kickstand
definitely worth it..even just a $50 dollar LP rear one will work.

Re: When do you use stands? (Patman)
I use the stands if:
I don't plan on riding the bike for a while and when I do ANY type of maint on the bike.
Oh yeah, when I had my bike in the back of a Penske moving truck, I had it on the stands

IIRC, you're supposed to have the bike on the kickstand to help completely drain the bike. You can put the bike up on a stand after to help keep it level as you add oil.

Re: When do you use stands? (AzntaggeR)
I use my rear stand anytime I am working on the bike, or washing/detailing it. If for some reason my bike were going to be parked for a while I would put it up on the stand as well, but I ride daily year-round so an extended downtime is not likely.
