Hey guys,

I got my hands on a CBR 600 engine and tranny that I can have if I rebuild it. I dont know much about bikes and their engines, I am more of a car guy. Does anyone know some links which might be helpful to me in finding the info I need to rebuild this engine?

Ive been around bikes for awhile and Ive found that the best way to get parts is get in good w/ a local dealer (not like honda, yamaha kind of dealer just a parts dealer) and order crap through them...It will be a lot less of a pain. And bikes are a lot like cars..just a lot smaller in cc's. My suggestion since this is your 1st rebuild take your time and work w/ somebody who knows what they are doing so you dont **** somthing up(just a suggestion)!

It's ALL about a factory service manual. Bikes change a lot faster than cars have a lot of designs unique to bikes and not cars. Especially since the tranny sleeps w/ the crank and the clutch is wet.

also dealing with all those carbs can be hard for people who never have worked with em before

i actually just finished my first rebuild on a F4i motor that was seized. it was a long and time consuming process... if you have just the engine and want to rebuild, you should have some ideas of what's wrong with it. if the parts cost more than a couple hundred, it wouldn't be worth it to rebuild yourself, expecially since nearly new engines can be had for around $600 on ebay.

mine turned out to have scored cams and head, and scored main journal bearings. parts cost about $250 from honda and ebay. it was a good learning experience but i wouldn't want to do it again anytime soon...

make sure you get the service manual and read all the instructions carefully. i can't coutn how many times i missed a step in the process and had to go back and redo everything...
