Hmm... do you think that maybe that slapper was due to getting to close to the edge of the track when going into those turns? I noticed he got pretty close to the grass area right before the bike lost control..

i read the thread on 600rr.net; guy came out of that wreck pretty good for what happened. i'm 95% sure there was a scotts damper on that bike too; the aftermath pictures are digusting/scary.

I saw the whole thing. The main thing with tank slappers is not to slow down and brake. It seems like natural instinct to try and stop when the bars are going crazy but smooth acceleration is the best fix.

Re: (usdmPC3)
Looks like towards the exit of the bumpy right hander, he was at lean when his front wheel came off the ground. When it landed, he missed his right footing while the bars started to slap. I've heard that can happen when you're gripping too hard when the front wheel touches down a little **** eyed. I've landed a little crooked a couple of times but the Ohlins saved my ***. Either way... ouch! Glad he made it ok though.

I had the same problem, that's why he says to right click and save as. If you just click the link you'll only dl about 9mb whereas the video is 32mb.

He did have a Scotts, but dampers dont eliminate tank slappers.

Hmm, maybe but usually tank slappers happen 'cause the front. Rear slides that suddenly grip ends in a highside or something close to it.

Re: (ScareyH22A)
I didn't read the thread on 600rr.net but from a quick look of the video it seems like his rear tire went and **** hit the fan from there.
I'm glad the tracks around here don't look like that. That's some scary unsafe **** right there

Also might have been a rear tire blow out. I run higher psi in the rear when on the track. Caught a nail once, but wasnt as bad as the video. I forgot who it was but some rider from the Isle of Man TimeTrial was in the same situation.

Re: Ouch... 600RR tankslapper(video clip) (knuttsachel)
I didnt see the slapper, but I can tell he turns with the bars too much. If you look at some of his earlier turns, he's not smooth at all while he's leaned in. If the slapper occured mid-turn, its because his small corrections threw off the balance of the bike mid turn, if it occured at the end of the turn, he was probably accelerating and his wheel lifted vertically and came down straight instead of turned like he was still in the turn.
Best thing to do is stay on the gas and ride it out. No beginner will do this though because instinct has you let off the gas when you panic. I suggest practicing baby shakes at very low speeds and getting on the gas afterwards. One mini slapper putting down a wheelie was enough for me....
