Default EFI remapping?

Hey guys, I got a question regarding the re-mapping of motorcycle EFI systems. I work for a shop just outside of Houston, Texas and we're looking at getting into remapping. What are we going to need for this? I've done quite a bit of research, but everything I find turns out to be a dead end. Basically, we're looking for some sort of system that does not require whatever bike we're working on to be re-chipped. I've heard of some systems that allow this, specifically SAGEM's Triumph T5 system, but there is no information on it on their website. If someone could help me with this, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Dynojet 250 dyno with tuning link to map the piggyback adjustable fueling modules they sell called Power Commanders.

That's the short version but prolly the best way to get into it and have a broad range of bikes you can work on with a really good database for maps.

Most shops that custom map will get $150-200 for a custome map - with the tuning link ya prolly won't need more than an hour and a few dyno runs to get good results.

Doesnt the owner need to have his own Power Commander? I thought it always has to be hooked up to the bike.

Power Commanders are the programmable fuelling modules that Dynojet sells for many models of (injected) bikes.

See, we don't need to sell every customer that wants a different map a power commander. Add in the cost of labor to the price of the power commander, and the customer is out quite a few bones. We are not located in a well-off part of town, so this isn't going to work for us. I've heard of some systems that will over-ride the stock chip and maps and allow you to use your own without having to use a piggy back system. Are these people full of ****, or do systems like this actually exist?

I dont know of any other way to remap without a PC. They are well worth the money if you are going to put enough mods on your bike to need one. Most of the time just exhaust upgrades dont really need remapped, you will get better performance if it is, but it isnt a must do most of the time.

I bought a PCIII for my z1000, it is definately money well spent. I would love to get a custom map done, to really optimize everything.

Maybe you could install adjustable pressure regulators so that you can control the Fuel pressure a little, but your in there same boat there as you would be with a PC. Youd have to buy parts and install them.

yea, most of the people that want this done at the shop do not have enough mods to really warrant it. Granted, the maps could use a little tweaking, but we have found that most people that want this done are dreamers, expecting to get out of the shop with a tuned bike for under $100. Hell the labor and Dyno fees alone would be way more than that. Thanks for the help guys, I really appreciate ya'lls input.

No, my line of work is non m/c related, I've just been around fer awhile.

You can map some of the Suzukis stock ECU's but that requires a "break out box" from Yoshimura or from Suzuki.

Regulating fuel pressure had nothing to do with mapping - fuel pressure (to and from the throttle bodies/fuel tank) is a constant, what yer mapping is the fuel injector pulse for (hopefully) correct air to fuel ratio.

If yer referrin to the Teka box by Factory then I can't say I've really heard anything good about it - product has had very limited exposure so that opinion is from tuners I've talked to (results may vary?).

If yer dealin with fuel injected bikes then ya hafta piggy back the stock ECU in order to remap and in order to remap economically ya hafta run a dyno with an exhaust gas analyzer.
