Default Automatic with Paddle Shift?

I was wondering whether or not the paddle shifting on the Fit was any good. I'm looking into one, but I'm kinda torn on whether to get the 5 spd MT or get the automatic with paddle shifting. I'm torn between the 2 because the Fit would be my daily driver and i don't know which one would be better for daily driving. Anyone on this forum have a Fit with the paddle shifting? Opinions?

I gotz that. personally i love it. I have always owned an automatic (have an auto EG) and the paddle shifters allows me 2 shift through gears manually, but if im feelin lazy, or i want to hold hands with my "girlfriend" i can put it in auto mode. I use it all the time, mainly on freeway's back and forth to work. I can downshift down 2 gears to get that extra lil kick to pass someone. The only downfall is that if you don't keep your hands on the steering wheel @ 10 and 2, it will get annoying to pick your arm up and upshift and put ur hand back on the radio controls or hang it out the window. That's my opinion. Hope this helps.

I test drove it and they work awesome, way more responsive and fun than the IS300.

Why in quotes? Do you mean your cack?

Back on topic; the Fit Sport Paddle Shifters are some of the best (as in most responsive) out there for automatics (not DSG or SMG).

I was a little hesitant to consider the auto as well.

I drive in tons of traffic, but will be probably tracking this baby and auto-xing it, so I wanted a car that was still fun.

The auto in paddle shift mode doesnt try to outsmart you, it lets you shift. It actually shifts faster than I do in a manuel, which isnt saying a lot.

Anyone know, if you are in 2nd, and you slow down to around 10 mph or so, does the car automatically go into 1st in paddle shift mode?

There are 2 modes, S and D, both of which allow you to use the paddles.

In D the tranny works like any other auto tranny. But you can ammend this regular mode by using the paddle shifters. You can down shift or upshift with the paddles at anytime so long as the engine cpu doesn't sense your are trying to downshift at too high a speed in which case it just won't let you. If you do downshift from 3 to 2, for example, it will allow you to do it at below 42 mph approx. It will hold 2nd gear for a few seconds depending on if you're still slowing down or going up-hill in which case it holds the gear longer. If you push the gas pedal it will also hold 2nd almost to redline. If you're in D and downshift to second or are just IN 2nd from regular driving it will not go into 1st automatically. It will only go into first if you're practically stopped or ARE stopped (from my experience).

In S the car stays in whatever gear you paddle into. If you're in 2nd in S and stop it will automatically switch to 1st. You can paddle into 2nd if you wish at this point and start moving in 2nd.

Paddles are fun except that they're attached to the steering wheel and NOT the steering column. This means they rotate when you turn the wheel. So trying to paddle around in turns can be annoying.

The paddles on the Fit Sport is the best "triptronic" style system Ive ever driven, it works VERY well. That said, I still bought the manual.

LMFAOO dat was a good one i forgot 2 mention that. I don't have a girlfriend but many girls as friends so dats what was up w/ the quotes lol.

okay newayz. ya the paddle shifters are great the only con was that they are mounted 2 the steerin wheel so it does spin but it doesnt bug me neways.

No the car doesn't automatically shift to 1st gear at 10mph, its actually like 5mph, but at that speed ur rollin to a stop or goin real slow. The car will automatically shift to 1st gear (from any gear) if you hit the brakes and come to a stop, so no need for downshifting.

Just curious, why do you guys think having them mounted to the steering column rather than the wheel would be better? They are mounted to the wheel in F1. If you are using 9+3 driving position with your hands, you will be able to pull them even when you are turning (assuming you are using proper hand grip). Otherwise youd have to take your hands off the wheel to use them while turning.

Here is a new C&D article about a Fit Sport 5AT. They basically said it goes 0-60mph in 10.4 seconds in D mode and 0-60mph in 9.9 seconds in S mode.

Still, it is considerably slower than the Fit Sport 5MT that goes 0-60mph in 8.7 seconds.

I don't think he had paddle shifters in the civic, just stated that it was an automatic thats all. Its been talked about before but never been done as far as I can tell, I also can't see any way to do it. Much easier and cheaper to just swap in a manual tranny anyway.

thats what i thought. i just wanted to know if i could set it up in my eg sedan thats my daily driver. my eg hatch that im getting with my tax money would be stick. auto is just so boring. my sedan is currently stick but it gets tiring when im lazy or theres traffic. and paddle shifters give you the best of both worlds.

I was wondering about the automatic shifting when using paddle shifters...I didn't get a chance to really open her up on my test drive, but will it redline without shifting or will the car take over and shift up?

Before my '07 Sport was destroyed in a crash, I used to open it up through the gears in the mountains where I live. Although I tried to avoid it with earlier shifts, occasionally the engine would stutter as it hit and bounced off the rev limiter. I have not opened my '09 Sport up enough to hit the rev limiter, so I don't know from actual experience if the GE's work exactly the same way as the GD's, but I am betting that they do.

So, as long as the gear selector is in the "S" mode, in hard driving you should be able to max out the gears without the trans. automatically up-shifting.

I have both a fit sport m/t and a fit sport auto. the paddle shifters in the auto are useless. more like a novelty or gimic type thing. these cars are already slow and the automatic is extremely slow even when using the paddle shifters. its an automatic transmission....lets leave it that way.

If you drive in downtown KC then auto would be good. But if in the burbs teh manual is MUCH better for highway cruising and MPG!

I had 07 with paddles and really liked em for cruising the mountians or slowing down for cops lol. I put over 40k a year on mine so auto was a must for me but the paddles made it enjoyable.
