Re: wrenching your ef
ok so here are the pics as promised...
what i started with...a rust hole big enough to put my hand through
By tearsdmf at 2012-08-08
so lets grind off some paint and open up the hole to see what were dealing with...
By tearsdmf at 2012-08-08
well i see ive got alot of bondo
By tearsdmf at 2012-08-08
but even worse is this ...big bump =car in two pieces?
By tearsdmf at 2012-08-08
alright now that we know what were dealing with time to get to work
By tearsdmf at 2012-08-08
so after cutting out this section of the rocker we can see how deep the rust actually goes
By tearsdmf at 2012-08-08
and more importantly what needs replaced!
By tearsdmf at 2012-08-08
hey who stole my rust?
By tearsdmf at 2012-08-08
at this point i decided to reinforce the inner panel with a 30"x4.5" piece of 18ga. mild steel spot welded in the middle and seam welded at the edges...this is my buddy doing a little welding so i could get an action photo
By tearsdmf at 2012-08-08
a little quick fab work with some 20ga. and ive got a replacement for the inner structure
By tearsdmf at 2012-08-08
but before it goes on its time for some weld through primer and some self etching where it wont be welded
By tearsdmf at 2012-08-08
the new subframe support welded in place i also had to make a piece for the lower wheel arch to be welded to as it was also rotten
By tearsdmf at 2012-08-08
a lttle more self etching primer and now its time to close her back up
By tearsdmf at 2012-08-08
By tearsdmf at 2012-08-08
By tearsdmf at 2012-08-08
so now all thats left is finish welding and then body work .....not too bad for my first time doing structural rust repair ...what do yyou guys think?

Re: wrenching your ef
that was the worst spot on the body thankfully ....thats why it was adressed first...and yes they salt in columbus and it sucks... this car serves year round and im glad i could repay her... im slowly bulletproofing her to be a track car with a full interior and a cage... but something that could show up at a car show and turn a few heads....its not a show car its just a car that shows up

Re: wrenching your ef
Hey guys.
I'm new here and I've been lurking for a while but I figured I'd start posting.
I've currently got a donor 91 Si hatch shell that I'm pulling parts off of to put on my 91 dx hatch. Today I pulled the exhaust, rear DC tie bar, and front stock swaybar off the donor.
I installed the front Si sway on my dx (which didn't come with one), set the exhaust aside for later, and cleaned up the tie bar to sell for a few bucks. I'm running a Progress 22mm rear sway, so that tie bar is useless to me.
I've still got coilovers and wheels to pull from the donor, as well as the harness. I've got a D16z6 and 5spd tranny to swap into my dx, just pulling parts together and getting ready. I'm pretty much a Honda newb, so I'm taking things slow and doing a ton of reading on here.

Re: wrenching your ef
bumpin this up! lol decided to scrap my accord, picked up a soon to be new daily, 97 passat wagon glx vr6 blah blah blah lol.
any ways scored some tl replica projectors from a buddy of mine, going to see if i can't swap them into a set of matrix racing projector housing head lights that i have. if not then i'll buy some zc head lights, and do a proper retrofit into those housings.
planning on tearing down my hatch this winter. needs new bushings in the rear bad, and i want to bore out my block and get some eagle rods in there so i can boost safely. also need to replace my 2nd gear shift fork and r&r my transmission
