Not sure if this applies, but if so, this can be exceedingly tricky to diagnose.

Adjustable electromagnet coils take the place of permenent magnets in an alternator. The magnetic field in the adjustable coil is increased or decreased depending on how much current you want of the alternator. This adjustable coil then interacts with the non-adjustable 'generating' coil to produce the output current. In this way you can get a consistent output across different engine RPMs.
The ECU must adjust the current to the adjustable coil to increase/decrease the overall output based on the signal from the ELD. If your ELD, ECU or alternator are not matched properly......
I'd get a potentiometer and connect it from the ELD signal wire to ground. Start at 1Mohm or 100 KOhm and keep tabs on the voltage. Start reducing the resistance and see if your alternator kicks into high gear. Usually you can hear the change in belt load in the engine 'tone'.
If this works maybe you can keep it that way to properly match these different components.

Re: Still having some electrical problems on '90 Civic Si.
any update? I'm having this same problem in my 91 dx with an obd1 dohc zc. At idle there is constant electical load on the motor, turn signal makes noise, cluster dims when i press the brakes, and all the other issues stated in this thread. I can't figure out what the problem is, and there are no codes from the ECU.
Any more info, input, or update would great! Thanks

Will be moving the car out of the shop later today so I can jump it and run more tests. I went over all the wiring and connections again just to be sure, still has no parasitic drain, etc. Also replaced the under-hood fuse panel with another one in better condition, thinking maybe my ELD was bad but still somehow passing tests.
I was wondering something...could having a regular-sized car battery be causing this problem? Maybe the alternator isn't strong enough to regain the voltage on a bigger battery when a bunch of **** is turned on? I do definitely need to get a small battery because this big one is too big for the battery tray, and is wearing a groove in my clutch cable. Not really sure where to get one, though...AZ has the Duralasts starting at about $90+tax+core, which is more than what I pay for a normal battery.
