Default Retrofit HID in a stock CRX headlight.

Anybody every tried this? I would love to have some nice HID in my stock CRX headlamps. I hate aftermarket lights. Anybody know of a how-to or anything???

I don't think it would be that hard. The problem is the HID's overheat the lights even with the aftermarket projector headlights. I've seen people have it work for a month but after that, it starts melting stuff.

It would be nice if someone found a good solution though!

They require much less power so the chance of melting your wiring harness is less then running higher wattage bulbs. I don't know how hot the actual arc is...

And the way I understand it, retrofitting just a HID bulb into a standard incandescent lens/housing is not approved by DOT and ends up being illegal in a lot of places. However, if you retrofit the entire housing from a car that had HID lights, its legal. Or something to that effect.

well I dont mind changing the lamp assembly as long as the external glass stays teh same. I know you need the bulb and balast, but what else would you need for this retrofit?

What would be a good donor car to get this from?

the external glass is the problem though. It was designed for incondecent bulbs instead of HID's therefore it's illegal.

If you really want to know how to do it i think this month's Honda-Tuning has a write up on how to retrofit HID's into a projector housing.

the problem is both how the reflectors are focused, and how the glass has the focusing lenses in it.

Will HID's shine clearly through our incondescent lenses?

Ive thought about trying it, complete w/ the projecters, but i was concerned on what the shine quality would be like. Most cars w/ HID's have clear lenses where as ours are incondescent so i wondered if they'd shine as nicely as a car w/ stock HID'S.

Anyone have any input on this?

using stock headlamps are a no no. the stock ones diffuse the light, as i read somewhere, get a new headlamp that is clear without any diffusion. then you buy a pair of HID's with the projector housing .. i.e. s2000, bmw... all that jazz. then you just retro fit it in the headlamps. sorry its kind of late but just wanted to give you guys knowledge that i knew.
