Only 4 gears.. safe for long highway drive???
dumb question guys but greatly appreciate any input! I want to buy a 1990 hatchback DX, but would need to drive it back 6 hours. Since it only has 4 gears, would it be safe/wise to drive it for 6 hours on the freeway back?
my fear is with only 4 gears, I’m going to be too fast and be in very high rpm for such a long time...
thanks in advance! :p

Is it a 4 speed transmission? Or is 5th gear out? If it's a 4 speed, then you are totally fine. If it's a 5 speed and 5th is gone, then you are fine.

Then what makes you think the RPMs would be too high?
FWIW #1, the number of gears has little to do with the top gear RPMs at any given speed.
FWIW #2, 2-speed transmissions used to be fairly common, even through the early 1970s, and yet freeway speeds were often higher than they are now.
