A nice engine problem for real tech heads!
Alright, here is my problem. Any help is appreciated as everything seems to be going wrong these days.
I was driving along when my engine stopped. It didn't bug, no rattle, it just stopped as if I had turned the ignition key off. When I try to start it again it turns, but won't start.
What I noticed is that when I turn the ignition key withiout cranking the engine, usually we can hear the fuel pump raising the fuel pressure. Right now, I does not seem to be working. It would be too easy to conclude that my fuel pump is defective.
What do you guys suggest I should check? Obviously the fuel pump, but it could also be an electrical problem. Maybe the ECU? I also can't read any code on the engine. Could be a loose wire??
The car is a 91 civic hatch with a D16Z6 engine. (sohc vtec) The wiring was done by a professionnal not very long ago.
Any input on this would really be appreciated!! I need my car to go to work. Taking a cab every day will cost me a fortune!!
Thanks!
HERE IS A RESUME FOR THOSE THAT CAN'T BOTHER TO READ IT ALL BUT WANT TO HELP
Car stalled and won't start. When ignition on, fuel pump does not seem to be working. Electrical problem? Pump maybe? What to check?

Were you driving and it died all of the sudden? Won't start again. I bet its your distributor. Your igniter or coil went bad perhaps. Check your distributor cap, igniter and coil.

I will check it, but if it were that, I would still hear my pump when I turn my key. Thanks for your input though!

bleh.... could be a possible ecu, could be main relay, i doubt its a bad dizzy b/c id fire for **** before it just stopped. could be a ground cable that poped off. could be a lose wire
BUT that's not the point!
First thing is first - check out that relay, and the fuel pump. Remember, all of these tests will require a multi-meter. Also, check out all those fuses!
Tortex does have a good point to watch out for disconnected wires, one time a wire off my starter motor popped off while I was driving. (It wasn't my fault!!!) Quite a few times it's usually the simple things that cause the problems.
BTW: I doubt it's the ECU. Unless it blew up or something... (yeah right)
Good Luck!

check for spark.....
what code is it trowing? What ECU??
check all conections on engine bay since u swaped the engine...
check the dizzy
reset ECU
check all fuses...
check for new Main relay

It's not actually throwing any code. Well, at least I can't read any codes. I'll see what I can find.

Basic car theory would say check for spark, check for fuel. If those both check out good then check the T-belt. If there is no spark or fuel then everybody else has told you what else to check. From your decription I would say the main relay has gone bad. On the other hand it is tough to make an asumption w/o seeing the car. Good luck.

I've never heard of the Main Relay dying while driving, it usually just doesn't let the car start when it's hot or something. But it's only like $41 so what the hell.

This might be too late but......
Mine did the same thing - Threw the timing belt. Does it crank really really fast? Check that first. Sucks if it is.

Try starting your car, turning over and spraying starting fluid into intake, If it kicks and if your pwr. up relay is not functioning, there will be no power to fuel pump, ecu, injector resistor box and something else, dont remember, But to just quit when driving, makes it sound like a ground problem or something, Other wise, I love problems, believe me you I've had my share, and wish you the best.
