Ok so im pretty sure im going to try this because i have a crx and im a cerified welder. The only question I have is how much mulla did you spend on the supra rear end and do you think i could use a different one like a ford 9 in.

you can use whatever you want. just gotta figure out how to make it fit/work. lots of time and fabrication and calculations, and blah blah blah

just fab up the engine, set it in its final resting place, fab up the rear and set it in its final place, then just measure the distance in between and have a drive shaft shop make you one

you can always go with a nice aluminum shaft custom made to fit..wont have to worry about weight but if its going in a crx that wont be an issue.

With a solid rear axle, if the D/S is too short the U-joint angles can get too extreme. You don't need a whole lot of travel though, so if it as least 2ft long, I wouldn't expect any problems.

DO IT ON ALL FOURS

IF YOU ARE A WELDER THEN YOU ARE A FABRICATOR!!! You should be able to cut and weld whatever you want to and putting a Ford 9" is possible in anything, hell at my work we have them in all of are little Taylor Dunn carts, and they are electric ******** LMFAO!!!
All welders know anything is possible, that’s why you are welder, to do the impossible and make it YOURSELF!

and that is why i plan to buy a welder very soon and start practicing, practicing, practicing. i want to start fabricating my own stuff. im tired of paying other people for the few things that i cant already do. if i had a welder, im pretty sure i would never have to pay anyone to do anything for me anymore.

True, they use a double-caradan (sp?) link for the D/S to Transfer case, but my point remains.
The supra rear end was out of a supra he had on hand I believe. Now if a Ford 9" was dropped in, gearing and posi or spooling or even a locker (wishful Jeep thinking here) could add to the possiblilty, especially because a Ford 9" would fit width wise.
