Is my axle broke?
Recently got a free 4dr 90 lx sedan and noticied yesterday when changing the wheels with some leftover rims i had, the drivers side boot up towards the hub is cracked open and leaking grease. Now what really scares me is that I put my hand on the axle and could move it back and forth from the hub. Now is this normal? I never thought it was. Also, when driving the car home the other day, the front drivers side of the car wobbled really, really badly. Friend said the wheel wasn't wobbling but the wheel just went back and forth. Also, the wobbling was the same even when I put on rims that I knew werent' bent. Is it safe to say the axle is basically broken in half?

if the axle is broke the car would not move at all. the wobble of the wheel has nothing to do with the axle, check the tie rod ends or ball joints

thats not broke^^ its bent or mis-aligned, if its broke its in 2 (or more)pieces and not connecting the tranny to the wheel. this is what you call broke

No actually! I'm going to go over to where I've stored the car and see about the freeplay in the wheel and I'll let you guys know. The good news is that your helping me narrow it down. Thanks!

Well, jacked it up and tried to move the wheel around. There was no movement inward or side to side so the wheel is pretty secure. I did how ever take the steering wheel and move it back and forth and there is a very little amount of play where it'll be free before it'll start moving the wheel. So I'm thinking now maybe it is just the axle doing it or unless I'm wrong, what else could it be?
