drive axle removal Q ?
So my drivers side axle has seen better days. Yester day I went to replace it so I took the wheel off and fired up my impact wrench 480ft/lbs which did not budge the nut. I have a 32mm non impact socket and the nut is unstaked. When I tried to impact this off it did spin but the axle spun a full circle with it. It has worked perfectly before. What is going on and how can I get this off?

It had been driven until yesterday. The axle is not flopping around in two pieces but something doesnt seem right. Yes it was in reverse and my compressor was at 90 psi. How do I keep the axle from spinning. Last winter when it was -10 out I had a shop replace my clutch...If it was torqued on with a more powerful impact could that be the problem..

I should have thought of that.. Ill give er another shot. Thanks. Do you think if I had the car on the ground w/wheel that it would have the same effect, I dont have an extra foot for the brake until tonight.

yeah have the car on the ground with tires on.it will help too..we were just stupid to take off the wheels first and jacked up the car and it was too late when we started to take the axles off..so i had to be in the car to step on the brake really hard.

Re: drive axle removal Q ? (Endo-land)
also if u do have a another set of hands start the car it makes breaking much easier, also grab a ratchet that has a lifetime warranty on it and put i big ******* bar on it and stand on the ****** i do this with most my ratchets and they hold up but if not just tell them u broke the ******* thing and need it replaced. i have a brand new engersol rand impact thats rated at 780 ftlbs and my powerbar and another bar will aways break stuff loose that the impact wont.

Put a screwdriver in the side of the rotor and let the handle sit against the caliper. That will keep the whole assy from turning.
