As stated above.
When the car is off i shift gears fine. (too bad that's not when it counts)

Could the problem be that i might have gotten my flywheel mixed up with that of my 89 hatch?

Is the clutch cable adjusted properly? Is it pulling enough on the shift arm? Did you replace the fluid in the tranny?

First thing to do is make surethe clutch cable is pulling the arm up as much as is easly doable by hand.

The clutch cable's too tight.

Guys, he said he can turn the car on but can't get it in gear after that point.

The reason he can't get it in gear is because the cable is too loose and he's trying to shove it in gear without actually putting the clutch in. I have had this problem, I do not think it's possible to overtighten the clutch cable.

Dude, if the cable's that loose the motor isn't even going to turn over. When the cable's too tight it won't allow the transmission to shift out of neutral. Go try it on your own car.
