Default how do i test fan motor?

my car is having fan trouble. after searching some threads i read that i should first see if the fan motor itself is by "jumping" the fan. How do i jump the 2 pin connector? I have the connector diconnected and tried to jump it to the battery but im not sure if I did it the correct way. thanks in advance

12v to one side and ground the other i dont think you can do it backwards the fan will just turn the other way but its probably the collant temp sensor i have never had one that worked for the life of the car i owned it always had to rig the fan up on a switch or ignition good luck
