HELP! I failed smog twice...

Default HELP! I failed smog twice...

ok i just tried to pass my 91 si and failed again... the first time in HC i had 177,190 when the max is 130,105, also NO i got 1251,1073 and max is 1088,948 so i did the following

1)changed oil and filter
2)new plugs, wires, dizzy(from HF)
3)new air filter

and i failed again with lower HC 145,138 but higher NO at 1633,1334
please help

change your cat. and make sure your car is warm and has been running for a while before you bring it in

i was keeping it as hot as i could on the way there i was keeping it above 4k the entire time and left it running while i did the paperwork but when i got to the smog place the freakin hillbillies sit there looking at it for ever just letting it cool down...

change your cat and you should pass.....my hc levels were at 525...oh wait....i didnt have a cat

any recomendations for a cat i guess i want one thats very restrictive to help pass smog... no need for a high flow cuz i wont use it again just once for the smog

do you have a header,,i bought some cheap header off this guy a while back and when it was time to smog my car,,it didnt pass,,so i took off the header and put the stock exhaust manifold,,passed no problem,,,the mechanic said it was because the header had 2 pipes where the oxygen sensor was and that it was only reading half the exhaust instead of reading the whole exhaust as one,,,i dunno,,thats what he told me

where in socal do you live i know a couple of tricks that can help you and they are completely legal so let me know.

I just went to a local muffler shop and had one installed...make sure its made for your motor. I think mine is made by Catco. I passed with a jdm 4-1 header hidden under a heat shield w/ 1 O2 sensor. (State referree inspection)

If you have an FPR, lean it out a little bit, like 4-5 psi. Retard your timing a lot as well. Also spray some carb cleaner into your TB to clean it out.

adjust your valve lash make sure they are not to tight usually the exhaust valves. did this for a friend and passed the second time, valves where not within specs.

replace the cat and dump in like 2 full bottles of octane boost and you should pass with flying colors.
