Default Help with B16 shift linkage?????

Hey guys

I'm swapping a B16 into my 88 hatch. Now, I have cut and welded linkage, that I got from a local engine supplier. Fitment is perfect, except for when I put it in first, it hits something and makes a loud clunking noise. It only does this in first. I thought that it was the weight on the back of the shifter rod, so I cut it down. makes no difference. Help?

Do you have an aftermarket exhaust? and/or short shifter?

Get under the car and look at it, and have a friend put it in first and see what is hitting. It is either hitting the exhaust. Or they could have turned the linkage when the welded it causing a bind.

No, it's stock DX exhaust and a stock shifter. w00t! Well, maybe it is hitting the exhaust. If it is, how do I fix this??

If you have a short shifter, you're most likely tapping your exhaust pipe. I do that all the time with my short shifter, but it's usually going into 5th.

is it preventing you from shifting, or is it just tinging?

No, it isn't stopping me from shifting, but it will be annoying as hell when the car runs. I can still get it into first, but if I push it as far as the shifter goes it clunks.
