Re: Had my dream car...now its gone
thats sucks dude! i know how you feel! check out my story!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPiYQe8i82I
basically, im a nice guy, i know ish happens even if its stupid ish, i had my motor in the car and i had to get it out before insurance came to inspect it which was a week after the accident, so i had that one week to find another crx to swap my motor into it before insurance claims it and i cant swap it out anymore! so! i just so happened to find another y-49 crx, took it down to the buddies shop, got b16 swapped into the new crx, stored the new d16 away, tossed a beat up zc motor into the wreck crx and left it as that!
i mean, the motor harness, shift linkages, spark plugs, axles, ecu, and a few other things were not even put back in there! lol, we just said it looked like that after the accident and all the other parts must have fell out! lol, but still, got $1500 it being totaled.
mad the idiot that wrecked the car pay what ever price i payed for the new crx, as well as the cost for towing and the swap and called it even. he paid up so it was all good! what i came out with this, a better looking/condition crx though it might be heavier then the 88 by a tad bit, didnt have to pay for anything, and best of all.......now i have rear disk brakes! only thing i miss about the 88 is the passive steering, but thats no biggy, type r lcas will do just fine
so all i gotta say, im sure things will turn out for the best and you might even end up with something unexpected that might just be better then what you currently have! good luck and wish for the best!

Re: Had my dream car...now its gone
would get some insurance money, buy the car back, and buy a decent crx with a blown motor or something, and swap it. I would not let them screw me over. Good luck

Re: Had my dream car...now its gone
I am sorry to hear of your unfortunate experience. I too have had arguments with insurance companies, some won, some lost, some a compromise. The only thing that I would suggest is to take detailed pictures, keep the body shop estimates, show the work, step by step, and document it all carefully. Then, when you are ready to sell the car the next buyer will know that it was “totaled” not because of irreparable frame damage or flood, but because of the low relative value of the car versus the accident appraisal.
Finally, since it is your ‘dream car’, chalk it up to something that the two of you have been through together, fix it, and keep driving it. As others have said, you may repair it to be better than it was and the whole thing will just be an experience. The measure of a man is how he responds to adversity, and it sounds as though you are handling it well.

I know exactly how you feel man.
I had a 99 mustang anniversary edition with the whole shebang.
Some broad rear ended me and I didn't see one penny even though she was at fault.
