Had my dream car...now its gone

To start it off I am 17 this was my second car, I have ALWAYS wanted a crx, well a fast crx and I finally got one 4 weeks ago. 1990 JDM CRX Si with a semi built b16a/sir tranny*loveit* and other misc add on's.

Well about 2 weeks ago I was driving down the road and I go to go through a intersection and some kid pulls out in front of me hitting the front of my car, the motor was un damaged, the frame was miniorly tweaked. The insurence company says it is totaled and want to give me $1500 dollars and keep the car WTF!!!!!!So today my dad is going to talk to a lawyer and hopefully they can help us, I think this is complete bullshit, I wasnt at fault so that kids insurence should fix everything WTF! here is the damage to the car.

Thats what I am saying...... When I first wrecked the car I was like damn I might just come out ahead seeing how. Got in a wreck not my fault, My neck hurts..and It has been pretty much the opposite.

I mean the car has well over $3500 dollars in suspension and brakes and shit

Re: Had my dream car...now its gone

yeah, if the other people were at fault, then their insurance should be contacted and they should cover all costs to get your car fixed!

Wow that's awful, I remember you posting very happy about your new purchase. Any snap shots of it with the hood open to get a detail look of the frame?

I don't have any other pictures so far but the next time I get to see the car I will make sure the get plenty. If you look at the core support it was mainly only crushed in the center so it didn't crushed the side where it is connected to the frame. As for his insurance fixing shit....I know nothing about nothing when it comes to this seeing this is my first time going through this, but it seems like my parents have only been talking about our insurence fixing the car wtf???

i always wonder.. If insurance did come out and audit the car.. could you argue that the swap costs X ammount and get more money? or would they argue that it is illegal and still fulk you over?

haha I wondered the same thing.. When they looked at my car they where ****ing assholes. I have complete interior, which most crx's don't have and 1 tiny rip on my seat and they said my whole interior needs replaced wtf! but when they asked me about my motor I just told them it was a factory honda swap from a newer civic and they just kinda nodded there head:(

If you have receipts, proof of the value of everything, identical cars that sold for $xxxx, etc.

ITR guys go through it all the time.

Re: Had my dream car...now its gone

I went through this exact situation last year with my civic. The problem is insurance companies value our cars so low that just about any amount of damage will total one $ wise. The only way to get out of the car being totalled is to back out of the insurance deal altogether. They will only ever give you what they think its worth, doesn't matter how much you have into it.

My damage was even less than yours and my hatch was totaled. I got $1100 for the car and bought it back for ~$150 so ended up with $950 and a salvage title car. Now Im just sitting on it because PA sucks for R-titling cars.

I would try to back out of the deal if possible, just suck it up, and fix it on your own $. I know it sucks but that's the disadvantage of owning an old Honda.

interesting.. If they recognised it as an extra cost or whatever and you ended up keeping your car (just getting it fixed) I wonder if it would find its way back to your insurance rate as well.. I know that mine is a little high being a teenage driver and having this car alone.. I wonder what would happen if it was a documented motor swap.

interesting stuff.. But yea insurance companies are almost hypocritical.. they will take your money all year, but when it comes time to give some of it back after an accident (the whole point) they argue.. fail

is it basically always an option to buy back?

Re: Had my dream car...now its gone

I believe all insurance companies have a buy back option. Don't let them keep it! The buy back is usually pretty cheap. Ive bought back 2 cars from totaled estimates, a 93 cx hatch for $50 from Erie Ins. and a 90 std for $150 from Safe Auto.

Re: Had my dream car...now its gone

i would fill a complaint about back and neck injury. LOL get like 3-4k for those.

will where i live MN you can buy the car back. Like my brother had a 00 SI he flipped it and insurance payed the value of the car 12,000. He went back and bought the car for like 700 and took everything off and sold it back to the junk maybe like 25 bucks.

a friend of mine ran into the back of mine and they wanted to total it but i just got them to take some of the damage off so i could get the max money back without the salvage title. i fixed it myself. GL

call the insurance company yourself. so you can ask the questions you want.

where i live if you "mod" your car and don't tell your insurance company they don't care.
and you should try to get more quotes.

**** that. i'd be damned. my ass would be jumping an impound lot fence and getting my shit back. get caught...jet. but i'd try it. hell, i'd try anything once. if you were in pa, i'd help you do it. or do it for a fee. lol.

Re: Had my dream car...now its gone

Just buy it back from the Insurance Co. They cannot take your car until you say so. Just make sure you tell them you want to buy it back before they cut you a check. They will deduct the buy-back amount from the payout.

fantastic advice!
on another note...our cars are valued quite low by insurance companies as someone has already said even if you reported the swap i bet they would only add on a couple hundred more dollars if that. so your best (legal) bet would be to get the money they give you and buy it back for cheap. Or you can go with jhammonds advice and possibly wind up in jail.

edit: and that is a nice looking engine bro

back in 06 i wrecked my truck wasn't my fault next day went to a doctor for back pain then went to a eye doctor for eye pain then a chiropractor for 5 weeks straight guess what my insurance did :) they got the other guys insurance to reimburse me and got a bran new 07 GMC serria Truck :), so what ever you do, DO NOT JUST TALK THE TALK ! you got to go to the doctor QUICK ! i mean next day QUICK explain to your doctor you been in a car accident and the doctor will know what to do . DON'T JUST TALK, TALKING GETS YOU NO WHERE you have to jump on the ball to show the insurance what happen .
