Default Engine swap ideas

So after learning how hard it would be to fix the shifter problem I have (see my last post), I've very stupidly decided to just leave the car how it is until I can get another vehie with hopefully a bit more power.
Now, after I do that, the '89 Civic sedan LX (1.5l stock) will become a project car that I just fool around with. My question is this, what engines could I fit into it without needing to weld or cut anything. I'm trying to lean away from another Honda engine just to try to be a little fun. I'm thinking something like a 90's wrx sti engine, maybe a small block Chevy if it fits. I don't care about cylinders, I don't care if it's auto or manual (stick preffered though). I don't want to have to cut the car up though, I want to be able to take the engine/transmission back out and it'd be back to the stock car minus the engine.

So any ideas? This won't be for a few years mind you, but I'll keep most suggestions at the back of my mind till then.

Edit: just wanted to add the engine is a bone stock d15b2 (pretty sure anyways) with stock m/t. It feels like it has lost a lot of power though, so I'm hoping a little here and there can bring it back up at least close to it's factory 92whp.
