Hey guys,

So like title states, when dropping my motor in the top distributor mount broke off w/ where I had the chain attached.

I sprinted to my old D15B2 and I was able to undo the two bolts, take off the valve cover and remove the top dizzy mount.

Yet, when I tried to do the same thing for the Z6 it didn't work!!

Any ideas appreciated. Thank you.

Nvm, for some reason when I read it last night I thought you meant that it wouldn't fit. Just do like DCRB says below and give it a tap with a hammer, as the dowel pins are just stuck in the head.

If for some reason it actually doesn't fit, I have one from a d16a6 that I don't need.

dude! why would you attach the chain there. thats a total no-no.

truth. Thats what the tranny bolts are for.

give it a good whack with a hammer, it's probably just stuck to the dowel pins that hold it true to the head

So I took your advice banged it w/ a hammer, not a lot of force and it seems to have broken off for sure now!

It's been a while since I've looked at the VTEC internals but it looks like the rail on top (holds LMAs) is bolted down on top/through the end cap AND it also looks like the rods for the rocker arms goes into the end cap. Is this correct? If so, were you trying to remove the end cap with all that stuff still on?

your gonna have to remove the whole rocker assembly to get it off ..this happend to me but in a different way the bolt snapped in the mount and i tried to drill it out and i cracked it .

for once yourgonna need to source a po8 camshaft cap (the part you broke) the one form the non vtec motors wont fit.

Your gonna have to remove the whole rocker assembly (becarefull not to pull it off and have all the rockers and the other parts fall out.

Also your gonna have to do everything by sequence and torque the 12 or 10 bolts if i remember..

you can also have it welded/ jb weld it back together, it appears that it broke after the last set of bolts so its not crucial to keeping the valve train torqued properly

If you get a new cap then you get to take the head off too and have a machine shop line hone it.

Yea thanks guys for your input on my terrible mistake.

Along w/ replacing the end cap, would it be most efficient to do a Cam Shaft, Cam Gear and have a machine shop line hone it?

If you were ever planning to put a cam and cam gear on it, then yeah - this is an ideal time.

However, if you don't have time/money for getting the cam degreed and the ECU chipped/tuned then it might turn out to be a poorly running downgrade rather than an upgrade.

Sorry for the side story, but it is relievant.

The second year of working as a mechanic, I dropped a d16 engine out of the bottom of the car, and I asked the only other mechanic at the shop to help me move it. He was a 70 year old that worked at Honda forever. He tells me that the distributor mount lobe could hold the weight of the engine. I second guessed him twice. He said he did it all the time. He started jacking up the engine with the engine hoist, and I was holding the engine. Of course the distributor mount snapped, and the transmission swung and landed on my foot. I was so very lucky that I had steel toes on. The leather was completely ripped off the shoe. Never trusted that guy again, and I always wear steel toed boots when working on cars now.

I don't mean to hijack this thread but I wanted to know if my rocker assembly can be repaired after my screw-up today. I'm a rookie and spent the whole day outside replacing my valve stem seals with the rope method and a valve spring compressor. Being rather pleased that I got it accomplished,I thought it would be easy enough to put the valve rocker back on...wrong,I had problems and torqued it down incorrectly. Seems I have a hair-line crack at the bottom of the assembly under one of the middle 12mm bolts. Can this be repaired at a machine shop or am I looking at a new head?

I broke one of my distributor mounting bracket bolt on my 1991 honda prelude si. Should I get it welded or, use jb weld to address my problem?

I have same problem i have a 1997 civic sohc and i bought car that the distributor mount on to of motor was broken off i didnt notice until i had to replace distributor can anyone tell me what i have to do and how to get this part i grabbed one from a 1997 civic ex at junk yard must of been a different motor it qas easy to take off and them one i got seems to be really difficult to take off someone help plz
