compression result question
alright, my buddy just did a compression test on his 91 DX hatch auto.
1st cylinder, 180psi, 2nd 0psi, 3rd 180psi, 4th 180psi
The three cylinders were perfect, but 2nd cylinder had 0 compression.
any idea on what could be causing this? he's also getting some grey smoke out of the exhaust.
head gasket maybe?

Re: compression result question (Hcivic88)
Sounds like rings. Did you try pouring oil into that dead cylinder? If compression jumps... rings. Or it could be the valves aren't closing properly and not sealing right.

Re: compression result question (blah13)
alright, i tried putting oil down the bad cylinder, and I got 20psi, so now I'm pretty sure that it must be the ring. all valves and everything looked fine to me. havn't pulled the head off yet, because I had to go home(1am and I had school in the morning) so ill have to wait a little bit before i can go back out to his house again. he has another engine, same thing sitting in his garage thats in almost perfect shape(needs little things like plugs, starter, intake... although we did get it started. so we're thinking we may just switch out the engines, cause we dont really have a lot of time to fool around with the engine, exams are coming up.
anyways, thanks everyone for your help, ive already pulled and dropped in a few engines so this should be nothing.
talk to ya later
