buying an old CRX.. what to look out for?
Hi guys
I have recently had to give up my stunning Mx5 as it was giving me a sore knee to drive. Have changed to a nice CRZ - comfort indeed - and am ever hopeful they will bring out a convertible version soon...
In the meantime, am on the hunt for another convertible for summertime and my Honda dealer has called to say the have an old CRX coming in next week.
a '98 R plate (UK) with 57000m on the clock. Not sure yet if Timing belt has been done, they will check when it comes in.
Is there anything particular I should be watching out for - other than rust - brake discs - usual wear and tear.
Buying such an old car is a bit of a commitment in terms of maintenance so I need to be aware of what is coming my way before I dive in... But I am a total sucker for a classic like the CRX.

Personally I do not know much about the CRZ.
However, I do know there there is a Honda certified mechanic on this forum that specializes in the hybrid technology cars.
You should send him a PM - his name is Xtrac1

OH - well then!
It is a car that is over 20 years old.
The break disc should have worn out several times in this time span.
Actually, most of the car should have worn out in this time span just from normal use.
If it were me, I would be looking for an absolute junk yard price with the expectation that everything will have to be inspected and much will have to be replaced. For instance, if the stock suspension is on there then expect to replace all the rubber bushings, ball joints, and the shocks and springs.

Re: buying an old CRZ.. what to look out for?
Thanks for the response.
my Honda dealer is getting the car in as a part exchange, so they will inspect fully for me. Am a good customer, so am confident they will be thorough. I am hoping they would service it and provide a 1 year warranty (I may be too hopeful with the warranty!!)
The car has only done 57k, and as they are so rare in the UK, it won't be junk yard price..... Will see what has been done recently and what my dealer thinks is needing done... make a decision then.
I have always wanted one... very tempted even if work does need done... Can be my little project...

indeed it is - I miss having a convertible, but just can't find anything I like enough that's cheap enough to have as a second car.
