Default Brake problems 1990 Civic Ex Automatic

I just got my college car and I'm having issues with the brakes. This car is automatic.

I assumed that they were just poorly bled and brought the car to a shop and had them pressure bleed them.

But when I step on the brake it will work fine, and other times when I step on the brake it will drop to like an inch from the floor. I check brake fluid level and its staying level.

Is it a brake master cylinder? I'm thinking this since fluid level is staying the same. Tomorrow I plan to get under the car and look at brake rubber lines (see if any are swelling), and piston seals, MAYBE rear wheel cylinders (god I hope not, I hate rear drums).

Any other thoughts?

thanks,
Shane

If theres no external leaks the master cylinder may be leaking into the brake buster and if thats the case just replace them both you can get them cheaper if you get them together.

You can get a new master cylinder from Napa for around $50. Many sites like http://www.tegger.com/hondafaq....html explain how to replace it. If you are handy with cars, it is a couple hours of work.

I got the new MC in there. Later today I will be bleeding them and see if they function right.
