Best intake / exhaust setup for a stock D15B1 ?

Hi guys, i just bought a completely stock 91 hatch std and i'm not really looking to dump any money into it, so i think i'm just going to upgrade the intake and exhaust.
Since the D15B1 engine is so underpowered, i was curious what the best intake exhaust setup would be ? ( dyno proven, no guessing please ! )
As far as intake goes, i was thinking about installing a cone filter right on the throttle body. I've heard these engines actually lose torque from a long piped cold air intake setup. Is that true ?
I'm not sure what i'm going to do with the exhaust but i was wondering if you guys knew what the best cheap setup would be.

you have better luck starting with a mpfi swap and a6 cam swap which would make a bigger impact than I/H/E. after you do than look forward to a ebay header and 2.25 exhaust and 2.5 inch intake from ebay with a k/n filter then swap the IM to maybe a z6 or y8.

Intake and exhaust on your stock D15 will only make it louder.
Start with what was suggested above, or swap to a B series or a Z6/Y8

I just put an Intake and header (no exhaust) onto my B2 and I can say the header made a huge difference. I dont have a dyno sheet but I can say its got a lot more low end power than it did before.

a header and a intake manifold (swap to mpfi) would give you a bigger gain then a "tube" intake. if you are trying to keep costs down, pick up a y8 manifold and injectors and a resister box and a a6 computer, and some headers. you are looking at about 200 bucks. then pick up 2.25 exhaust.

Very good suggestions.
So would i benefit at all from removing the huge stock airbox setup and putting a cone filter right onto the throttle body?

Honestly I would just leave it stock because I had a d15b2 with those mods you where talking about and it felt super slow still. The d15b motor doesn't respond much(if at all ) to mods. Like they said mpfi swap and a6 cam will make a difference tho.

for the price of and time of installing a cam, manifold with injectors and computer you should really just put a b18 in it. NO you should really just buy a car with a B18 in it.
I tell you when I was a younger I had a mustang with a 302ci in it
I dumped tons of money into crap that only gave me a little more performance
dual exhaust, 4 barrel, headers, cam, rebuilt my trans and put a torque converter and shift kit in it... so much garbage.
I probably got 50-75hp on top of the 300hp i already had
In one weekend I could have hit the junkyard and for $400
Found a LTD or a truck with a 390 or a 428 and a C6 transmission
Bought a set of coil springs and a transmission linkage kit
I would have saved myself 80% and had a car almost no one could have beat.
Unfortunately being clueless and with no advice other then Hotrod magazine and all the garbage people who just want to sell product I didnt understand I was being taken for a ride...
Listen when people say that engine cant give you great performance and any small changes you do to it wont be significant.
Tune it up ... live with what you have and realize .. you didnt buy a race car ... its a gas saver heheh
a filter ... even a cam and manifold wont do much
still peppy though

Assumptions assumptions assumptions...
661rex89si, stop being an idiot and read my original post. I seem to remember saying... "I'm not looking to spend any large sum of money". So now i've said that twice in case you forget and feel the need to be rude about it again.
To everybody else, i appreciate the replies, but I'm not looking to build a drag car. I was just wondering what i could do to my D15B1 for cheap or free to get a little easy horsepower.

Do a MPFI swap first, then buy the intake and exhaust after.
MPFI should run you about 50-100$ depending on how cheap you find the parts for.
Or better yet, just get an A6 head and swap it while you do the MPFI conversion
SI Transmission will make it a lot peppier, remember the B1 only has like 70HP stock.

mpfi swap and a6 cam can net you up too 110 hp its been proven.

Actually youd probably feel the most difference with an Si tranny over the DX one I know I did. And my dx had a stage 2 clutch and my si had a stage 1 and the si one still felt a lot better.

only difference between the dx and si transmissions is the final gear 3.88 for dx and 4.25 for the si they both share the same gearing 1-5th but that final drive makes a difference.

Does the engine need to be pulled to drop the tranny? I don't have a cherry picker but if all it takes is pulling some CV axels and some bolts, i'm game.
Are the std CV axels and the shift linkage compatible with the Si tranny? My std is a 4 speed.

I think i might do that.

So can anyone tell me whether putting a cone filter straight onto the throttle body would be a good idea or not. Since the D15B1 is so intake deprived, i was thinking that this would be the best intake setup.

That would be a terrible idea. The d15b1 is worthless, you wont feel a noticeable increase in power without boost.

Engine is scrap metal. As already said, intake and exhaust will just add sound not power.

putting a filter on the tb is problably pretty pointless. 1 it might not fit. the dp intake plennume sits pretty high in the bay. so u might be smushed against the hood. 2 looks GETTO. buy a short ram off ebay for the same price.
and like everyone already told you do a mpfi swap and put a header on it. the stock b2 exhaust manifold is really restricted.
