Rust repair

Hey...what's going on with all the holes punched in the panel...what do they do exactly...is that a version of a butt weld...what do the little pieces of steel do that you had clamped on then welded.
looks like you had another panel to cut up for rust repair....

basically you punch all the holes then cut a strip of metal and clamp it in place. what this does is it creates a "backing panel" that allows you to place the rust repair panel in place and keep it flush with the rest of the cars panel. The punched holes are so you can make quick spot welds because if you make beads of weld it heats the panel around it so much that it warps, so you do a single spot weld at a time and it keeps the temperature just right. Kinda difficult to explain, do you know what Im saying though?

So...then... when you set the panel with spot welds...it looks like you go back later and do a series of short welds...I guess this keeps the panel from getting hot and warping....good idea....did you learn that from someone or read it or what...makes sense. I see someone busting your welds on another frame... looks more to me like you were either running low on Argon or it was low and you didn't have the pressure high enough...either way...like you say...it only had spot welds before and you're not looking for beauty...did you have good penetration...was it blue on the underside of the weld...I am new here...and never joined because a lot of posts seem to have some know-it-alls making comments...so I say...where are the pics of their work.... at least you have the gutts to share with and help others...and from I read you are only 17... how many 17 yr olds can change a spark plug, let alone do some basic welding? or swap an engine by themselves...and wire up the new ECU? Kudos to you... some day you'll do some really fine work if you hang in there.... remember....no one ever erected a statue of a critic....One last point....money changes everything....I'm betting you'd do things a lot better if you had more than a 17 yr old's income.
My welding is far from pro.... especially when my dad locks up the tools and I have no grinder to remove the paint so Im literally welding through paint, haha
As far as money, Im unemployed so what I buy I either have to borrow the money then pay it back or sell extra civic parts then use that money. thanks for the compliments
