'91 Civic Si emissions questions (sooty tailpipes)
question I hope someone can answer: I have a 1991 Civic Si/5 spd, which is totally stock except for a K&N "Typhoon" intake. My problem is that the tailpipes accumulate a sooty residue on the tips after only a couple of miles of driving (after being cleaned). What gives? I had the engine diagnosed for a too lean/too rich situation, and the numbers turned up on the money. I have heard that after a head gasket replacement/head skim that these engines can start consuming oil, and since I go through a pint every two tankfulls (no external leaks, except for somevery minor head gasket weeping), I am thinking that maybe some oil is being pushed past the rings.
any ideas?
cheers
