91 civic D16y7 MPFI swap help
Been using this site as help for years and now i have come to a stump i have to ask myself.
Bought a 91 civic after my 97 dx was wrecked. Engine swap was simple but now i need to convert to MPFI because the smog people told me it was running "super" lean. I searched around but just ended up getting confused. My goal is to keep the car OBD0 since its just a dd. Since i still have the y7 complete intake could i use that? I read all the wiring and work but would an obd0 ecu work with it?
If anybody can help me out i'd truly appreciate it. Thanks.

yes. as long as you use your stock dx intake manifold, distributor and o2 sensor as well as the dx ecu. you will be fine

Re: 91 civic D16y7 MPFI swap help
The stock engine in that car is DPFI (dual point fuel injection) which means it has a primary injector and a secondary injector, you can look up on rywire how to do the mpfi swap. If I remember correctly you need to take the signal wire from the primary, split into two and run those to CYL 1 and #3, and do the same with the secondary to CYL 2-4, this will allow you to run 4 injectors for a mpfi swap. Check out rywire, it's really not as hard as it sounds

Re: 91 civic D16y7 MPFI swap help
So i can just splice into the pm5 ecu for the mpfi swap. But the thing is i have the y7 intake would that be plug in play? or what tweaks am i looking for. But the splicing sounds hell of a lot easier than the ecu switching (which i know is still not hard).
BTW engine swap has been done and car is running on dpfi. Just need the multi swap and should be done.

Re: 91 civic D16y7 MPFI swap help
I've never seen a MPFI conversion done with a Y7 intake manifold. I don't see why it couldn't be done as long as the needed sensors are equivalent signal wise.
No. If you're intention is to stay OBD0 you want a PM6 ECU (PG7 will work but not sure if it'll pass the sniffer with your specific setup). As stated, you have to follow the MPFI conversion guidelines. If you really want to make life easier find a "regular" intake manifold with the throttle body sitting sideways. There won't be any tricks if you follow the numerous write ups floating around the web. Don't forget you'll need a new distributor to match the new ECU.
Personally I think it would be cool to see it wired up using the Y7 manifold but may be easier to go the proven route if you're under a time constraint.
EDIT: Random thought, what injectors are you using currently? Original ones form the dual point or did you swap them for two off of your Y7?

Re: 91 civic D16y7 MPFI swap help
Yea i was planning to do the swap the "right way" (most common i suppose) but what efracer said was kinda cool.
Anyway im using all original dpfi set up. Would switching the injectors make the car less lean?

Re: 91 civic D16y7 MPFI swap help
After saving and searching i have an almost complete d16z6 intake and a bare d16a6 intake. I'm missing the fuel pressure regulator and i pulled the fuel rail off an eg. does anybody know which regulator would work? I'm looking at the dpfi one wondering if it bolts up ..
Other than that any suggestions are welcome i already have obd0 distributor, pm6 ecu, obd0 injectors.

Re: 91 civic D16y7 MPFI swap help
get a resistor pack for those injectors.
you will need the obd1 regulator as the obd0 ones most likely wont bolt to the rail, i know the d16a6 one will not work at all.

Re: 91 civic D16y7 MPFI swap help
Alright everyone just did the swap but sadly no start. Engine cranks but no go. I double checked the firing order its good. I think i heard a sort of pop while cranking and pressing gas pedal. I've checked all wires they seem good and no check engine. Any help appreciated while im still figuring this out.
Thanks
Thanks

Re: 91 civic D16y7 MPFI swap help
Update i found my fuel pressure regulator is leaking from the hose that connects to the wall. Im searching for a better clamp but idk if that would cause the car to not turn on ...

Fixed the leak the car now turns on for about 2 sec really hard at maybe 100 rpm then dies out. Anyone ever encounter this before? Starting to think it may just be the fuel pressure regulator gone bad

Re: 91 civic D16y7 MPFI swap help
Ah yes ill throw in some background.
i was running d16y7 in the hatchback on dpfi. i found a complete z6 intake and did the mpfi swap. I hooked the map connection on the throttle map sensor i beleive it made no differece.
Link of the guide i used: http://www.angelfire.com/d20/hcivic88/dx-siwiring.html
Finally got the car to run but it shakes, feels like its misfiring and smells of unburned gas from the tail pipe, also ran it to normal temp and the cat started to glow red. No check engine as well. Just bought new spark plugs/wire set so maybe the wires are different spot then the dpfi?
