Default Zex 59300 Woes.......

Ok. For starters I dont want to hear any crap about go b. I'm in California and its a hassle. If i did i would bar. But because the fact I dd my car for work about 160-200 miles m-f, swapping in a b to kill some gang of miles on it is pointless to me. I'm buying q ep3 in the next months and itll be where all my $ goes.

With that said, I have a couple of questions about this cam. Take in mind I'm a noob at building. Never done it. So I have the following q's

1. Can I run this cam on low octane or do I need higher grade.
2. Can i just swap the cam on while the head is still on block? I'm not gonna upgrade my springs or retainers..thats why i ask. I'll do that later when I swap in another d in when this one gives. I just want my d to be funner.
3. Can I still have good mileage if I dont be ripping on it all the time? This due to my car is my job. I'm a courier for the studios...hence I drive all day long. So i still would like to retain good mpg.

Please no negative posts....or b crap. Or why ep3 and not type s ****. If u going to do that please take the time to hit the back button in your browser and go f up another thread.

TIA

Info to back this up? Also Ho would I go about #2? I never have changed cans in my life. Only swaps. Will I be ok without tune for a bit? I know its essential with any major mods. But just curious as to maybe base map. And will my car be reliable? Since im not upgrading springs/retainers i will be keeping stock rev limit to be safe.

I haven't bought it yet. Planning to get it in a couple of days. I know how to do timing belt. Just never done cam removal. I'll look at my haynes. Also take in mind I already have i/h/e flywheel stage2 clutch and chipped ecu.

IMO get an adjustable cam gear to go with the cam, then get it tuned. just throwing a cam at the single would be pointless. Make sure you read and research the PROPER break in for that cam as the manufactuer reccomends.

Would I have any timing issues with a stock camgear?

no there would be no timing problems. an adjustable cam gear allows you to not only the ignition timing at the distributor, but the cam timing as well allows you to degree the cam with the distributor timing to get the max lift and duration of the cam producing the maximum power. on a build i saw run on a dyno w/ adjustable cam gears set at "0", then tuned with a few degrees added either way there was a 4-6 whp gain. that was on a ITR w/ S2 gears.

ok first off what d series engine do you have? d16z6 i hope. if its the d16y8 then get the zex105900 or whatever the code it. any other d series engine you have ull have to wire up vtec and get the selonoid etc.

its a great sohc camshaft but there is no need to upgrade the cam gear unless you are doing some extensive tuning. you can pop this cam in and go but it is highly recommended that you upgrade springs and valves also. if not itll void any sort of warrenty (ask me how i know)

u'll have to readjust the valvelash clearences once you put the cam in. its a bit tighter then the stock clearences.

honestly if you arent going to build the block and upgrade the head, dont bother with any cam. save your money and put it towards the ep3
