Re: MINI ME Z6 Head on Y7 block
You can do either, personally I like the Y7 guts in the Z6 case better, it's free and it looks cleaner. Make sure you keep the Z6 shaft/bearing assembly, just swap the electronic stuff. Btw, if you put the other Y7 distributor together with the Z6 guts it's identical to a D15B7/D15B8 distributor if you want to know what it fits if you were planning to sell it.

Re: MINI ME Z6 Head on Y7 block
The only SOHC distrobutor with a different bolt pattern for the distributor is the P08 head (92-95 vtec head). D15b2/7/8, D16y5/7/8, d16a1, etc... all have the same bolt pattern....
That being said, you can:
A. Buy an Obd1-Obd2a conversion harness
B. Swap guts
C. Unpin and repin the plugs
D. Cut/Solder

most people dont chip the ecu and tune it since compression has changed.
most people dont get timing jus right and bend valves.
people dont replace the timing belt and other small gaskets and spit oil everwhere

Re: What are some of the MAIN problems everyone has with MINI ME swaps
Most people that seem to have an issue seem to be trying to Frankenstein parts together that aren't supposed to be simply because they got them cheap or free. There are dozens of write ups to use as a blueprint but some people chose to go their own route/deviate from the write ups and get stuck/have problems. The write ups I've read are pretty straight forward so stick with what works.

Re: What are some of the MAIN problems everyone has with MINI ME swaps
I'll second the ECU/tuning one. Even after tuning my car (b7/z6 mini-me), I can't run anything less than 89 octane or it'll ping too much.
As far as the "most people mini me swaps have little to no power and run like s&!t" thing goes, "most people" are clueless and don't do the swaps properly. If you do everything correctly, you should have no problems. I've been daily driving mine for about 5 years now.

^yeah true, friend has a y8 head IM and d16a6 mini-me untuned, p28(runs premium fuel-a must) loves it and people think he's got a B16 under his hood, and yeah daily driver for the last 2 years, only time it ran like schiza was when the pcv hose from IM going to the breather box broke in half.
