Y8 to y7 question
Ok, finally getting around to searching for a y8 head to drop on my y7 for my 98 ex. (motor was swapped to y7 by previous owner). I looked into this a lot before, and I remember someone saying to look for a y8 out of a car with an auto tranny. But now I can't find where I found this info. I think it was because the auto tranny y8 used a 2 wire ait vs the manual tranny y8 using a 3 wire. The harness on my car is still the y8 harness, but has been made to fit the y7 that's in the car. Aka, I have a 2 wire ait, however, I'm sure the 3rd wire is probably still somewhere cut off in a wire loom or something. So, 2 questions here, what are the differences in an auto tranny and a manual tranny y8 head/intake manifold? And secondly, which one should I be hunting for my swap, or does it even matter? Thanks

Here's some good info on y8 IM differences. Here Googling "d16y8 auto vs manual intake manifold" resulted in tons of information.
And I think you might be confusing the IAT sensor with the IACV. Which is 3 wire on Auto (located on TB) and 2 wire for Manual (on back of manifold)

Re: Y8 to y7 question
The head is the same for auto or manual. The intake manifolds are different.
If you have manual transmission and VTEC engine you need the manual EX intake, as it is the only one with the two-wire IACV. The manual EX ECU requires a 2 wire IACV.
Check your ECU and manifold, it is possible someone just swapped the engine to a non-VTEC one without changing anything else. Other than taking out the CEL bulb so you don't see it is throwing VTEC codes.
