Default y8 build

i'm going to be building an all motor d16y8. before anyone says just swap i'm wasting my money, i'm not doing this to have the fastest civic. this is more or less a learning expierience. building an all motor d is cheaper than buying a swap and then on top of that building that engine. i was thinking of runnin somewhere around 11:1- 11.5:1 comp. but will that be ok for a daily driven car? maybe like 10.5:1? also i want to put sleeves in and bore out to 78 or 79mm. will that make it any less reliable? thanks for any info

no responses from all motor forum,

sleeving it is useless for your usage............................................. .plus its like 2g's.......more thasn a swap im a d-series guy and i would say sleeving it is a waste of money 11.5 is too high for cali there............11.0 maybe just get some p29 pistons cheap way to boost compression

so sleeves is not a good idea considering the cost. i wasn't set on it or anything. would it give a good power gain though? going from 75mm to 79mm? and p29 pistons. won't that make it higher than 11:1? i though i read somewhere it would be more like 12:1? also someone told me that my engine might get to hot with the higher comp? i've never heard of anyone having problems but, since it was mentioned i was just wondering.

what are your power goals?
11.0 or even 11.5 should be fine for a dd car with appropriate tuning, the stock itr is 11.1 or 11.3 or something like that.
sleeving *shouldnt* make it less reliable if its done well, but as 96accordlxf22b2 pointed out its ******* expensive, expecially for a d.

p29 pistons will put you to pretty high compression, somewhere in the neighborhood of 12.6:1 I was considering building a y5, it has the same block and head as the y8, just different pistons cam structure/vtec-e. The pm6 pistons out of the d16a6 bump you to around 10.3:1, a 2 layer hg and .01 of milling/deck would bring that up to 10.9:1 which should still meet california emissions, which if you can meet cali emissions you can meet ANY emissions

Ive seen zex cams recommended several times for sohc, the zex 105300 a few times. Unless you change the redline with that one, word is that you dont have to upgrade springs/retainers

anywhere from 130 - 150 would be good enough for me. money isn't really an issue, i'm gonna be spanning the build out for a few months maybe longer. i was just curious on how much power a d could get from a 79mm overbore. i've done quite a bit of research, i was think of goin crower for cams and valvetrain, or maybe ferrea. eagle rods, a good pnp, valve job, bigger TB, and perhaps an edlebrock IM or just keep the y8, haven't decided yet. as for bearings and piston rings, oem should suit just fine right? feel free to list any superior companys. thanks for all the info

lol well thats the thing. i want to rip my motor apart. well maybe 130 was a little low. i have a y7 right now, i was thinking of that for a minute. but say i did get the overbore with 11:1 comp or higher, roughly where do you think that would put me at?

You shouldn't be looking here for help.... You should be looking at d-series.org they will give you better respect there, not saying that honda-tech doesn't give you respect but it will most likely not to get flamed.... plus over at d-series.org they have people just like you doing this all day...
