Y7/Z6 98 Civic misfiring no codes
Hey everyone need some help here. I have a 98 Honda Civic ex 5spd previous owner put a z6 head on with y8 IM. Drove the car around for a few months before really looking into it and decided to throw a chipped P28 ecu and obd1 conversion that was sitting around.Few weeks before winter it all of a sudden had a bad tick out of nowhere so parked it until it was nice out again too look into it. Well was finally able to look at it few days ago and turns out the nut for valve adjustment had came off and the screw worked it's way up and due to the previous owner also breaking the valve cover bolts off in the head and capped over the two bolt holes that broke so luckily I knew of this and already got a new identical z6 head did a valve lash on it and threw it on with new head gasket, IM, And header gaskets also replaced a few clips that they had broken or got rigged together during at some point. When it was all back together and timed correctly it had a terrible misfire and noticed that only the header tube closest to the distributor and 3rd away were getting hot. So figured that the injectors had gotten clogged up ordered new ones and got them put in started right up and sounded great for the first 15-20 seconds before we noticed a leak on one of the injectors and shut it off. Turns out I had tore the o-ring put a new one on and put it back together and the misfire is back and only the middle two headers are getting hot now. Not sure where to go from here now I've done 2 successful head swaps and 1 swap with no problem but this car has been nothing but trouble any suggestions would be wonderful.

I've checked it and changed it multiple times as well as a few friends have tried it's a z6 head with z6 cam gear the way we have been doing it is lower mark slightly to the left lined up with notch on plastic cover behind gear and block is y7 believe y7 crank pulley with middle of the three marks lined up with the little sight on the lower cover. Is this correct?

You could have a bad ECU... also a couple of loose injector wires (either at the injectors or at the ECU plugs), and double check all of your engine grounds... especially the one at the thermostat housing that is part of the engine harness.

Tried another ecu seemed to run a little better but still only 2 firing I'll check the wiring tomorrow and let you know what I find. Thank you at this point I'll try anything

Well decided to go check it out tonight currently only have a test light since my multimeter decided to take a crap the other day (reading incorrectly) with the power on not running I pulled the injectors plugs off and they all light up. Decided to check the plugs and wires again all have been replaced since this started and they do all have gas on them so looks like the injectors are firing it's just not igniting. Thought maybe it had bad compression but if that was the case why would the working cylinders change when injectors were replaced?

Is the chip loaded with a suitable tune (since this is a stock setup, it should be base)?
Are the plug wires in the right order? Are the plugs good (new doesn't necessarily mean good)? Is the compression OK?
Have you set timing with a timing light? If the spark timing doesn't come in properly near the center of the adjustment range, the cam timing must be wrong.

The ecu being used before winter is what I was told is a chipped p28. Now using a stock p28. Plug order should be correct marked them when I removed them and had someone watch for spark at the plugs and all 4 lit up blue. Haven't checked compression but how could it be that if the firing cylinders changed? No timing light it's a z6 head, cam and cam gear. Gear is lined up with notch at bottom left is that right or do I absolutely have to use a timing light never needed one before to put in time

Re: Y7/Z6 98 Civic misfiring no codes
Alright just got the crank pulley bolt off have to do some running around then I'll try the timing again. Already had the swap done when I got it and it ran great no codes or anything for months the loud tick from the head came and I parked it immediately until I could look further. Currently using the same cam gear they had on it so figured it would be ok I do have a new adjustable I can use just need to get a key for it. Thanks for the input

Re: Y7/Z6 98 Civic misfiring no codes
So just pulled the crank pulley off and turns out the key chipped in the corner and allowed the pulley to partially turn so found part of the problem. Don't have another y7 pulley am I able to use any other pulleys for it or does it need to be a y7 or can I get a aftermarket one and not have to do anything for it to work? Is there a difference between automatic or manual?
