WOW! running a D16Y7 with a P72
wow so i bought a 1997 civic ex shell with a nonvtec d16y7 and lastnight i come to find out that it's paired with a obd2 P72. WTF??
is there any logic to what im saying? was the previous owner crazy? or is he doing something forbidden?
the car doesnt rev over 5000rpm its horrible!! there's no acceleration whatsever and my gas mileage tres horrible!
would this ecu damage the d16y7 at all? im trying to find a P2E right now but if i get the right ECU how much would the motor benefit or would it still be the same crappyness

Well, the P72 should be throwing codes for vtec, its dumping a ton of extra fuel into the engine, and the ignition timing is probably a bit off, so yeah it should run a lot better with the proper ECU.

Yep, just make sure you get a 5 speed ECU or you'll be throwing codes for the automatic transmission.

look at the 3 digits after P2E, the middle of the 3 will usually tell you, if its a 5,7 or 9 its generally an automatic ECU. otherwise its probably 5 speed.

Yes, this is really about the only ECU choice as far as something that just plugs in and works correctly.

*smacks forehead* (not meant at you, at the car)
are you sure you want to tackle someone else's "project"??
I say that because it seems like they grabbed the Y8 out of the car, threw in the Y7, hacked it so it would work then dumped it.
the AICV is on the back of the intake manifold. held on by two bolts, it's always looked like a small wiper motor to me.
Reach in to the driver's side of it and locate the plug that's on the under side, check for three wires and not two.
Granted that doesn't mean that there are three wires run to the ECU, but it's a start.

Re: (peeweezy)
well i checked the wire going into that AIAC motor you told me about and yeah its 3 wires. that still doesnt solve my idle problem though
my cousin told me that i should try taking it off and cleaning it with carb cleaner or something will that do anything?
im still getting a P-code

Cleaning the AICV may help. All though with cut wires in the harness I'm guessing you have a wiring issue.
Unfortunately the right sensor on the manifold with the right plug doesn't mean that it's wired correctly.
unplug the sensor, turn the key to Run (II) but leave the engine off.
check for 12V on the yellow/black wire (center pin)
turn the ignition off, make sure that the black/blue wire is connected to A14 of the ECU
make sure that the orange wire is connected to A13 of the ECU.
If you clean the valve, and make sure that the wiring is right, replace the AICV.
