worth saving a short block or trash
i have a z6 short block with a hole in between the sleeves. in between number 2/3 sleeves and its about a 2-4mm hole. The number 2 sleeve dipped downward.. i want to have Devicon( or liquid aluminum ) or weld it if i can to patch up the hole and shave it down some or should i just trash it. its still a SOHC but its my sohc so i care about it. =] will post up pics later if you care to look at it

Or you could alway have the block sleeved. Ask the guy's on d-series.org or turbod16.com if any of them want it cheap.

I don't quite understand where the hole is. If its part of the actual sleeve, its junk unless you re-sleeve it. If its part of the water jacket (outside of the block), it may be possible to save it. You have to make sure there are no cracks leading from it first, smooth out the hole to prevent stress risers, and ideally partially thread a bolt into it to fill most the hole with metal. They sell small aluminum bolts at hardware stores (not places like Homeboy Depot), which wouldn't create thermal expansion issues.
Honestly its only fit for a daily driver, assuming you also have a second car in case the fix fails. A clean D15B or D16Z6 block is all of $2-300 MAX, minus $50-100 for the head.

Hate to say this, but SOHC blocks are so cheap I wouldn't bother. I've seen Z6s for $200 on craigslist.
I played with a compression calculator and using the Z6 crank, head, pistons, and a B7 block, pistons and head gasket you could get a CR of about 10.6 if you wanted to make a frankenstein engine.
If you have pics I wouldn't mind seeing them.

Get some more pictures, preferably a close up on the hole and an angled one from the side and front or back of the block. I thought this was going to be like through both sleeves.
I'm not an expert or a machinist, I am more just curious to see how badly the block is messed up. That's from the 80 shot of N2O, right?

Re: worth saving a short block or trash
The damage on the head or block can be felt slightly with a fingernail? The block looks like it's got a deeper hole than that.
That doesn't look that bad. Gettting it filled in and then decked, and the cylinders bored to make sure it's all straight couldn't be cheap. (Welding could warp the block a little). Just find a used Z6 bottom end and swap your crank and stuff over, it will probably be cheaper than repairing that one. JB weld is good to 500*F, aluminum melts a little above 1200*F
Since it was your dad's fault, shouldn't he have to fix it? Did you ever explain the need for running higher octane?
