I was wondering if it was possable to get power to the unit other ways?

there is power spots on the fuse box, just get the flat plug type connector at radioshack and plug it in there and then ground it nice and good. just be careful...amps hurt

Been there, done that. You can do it a couple of ways, depending on 1) how long your power cord is (though you can always graft in extra length) and 2) where you mount your radar.

First, for low mounted radar, run the power cable through the middle screen vent. You have to get down under the dash and drill a hole in the vent. Push the cable through and then wire to either the fuse box (scary, too many wires and hard to reach) or wire to the cig lighter (easy, lots a room to move around).

Second, for high mounted radar, remove A pillar trim, visor trim and upper windshield trim. Run power cable between your source of power (fuse box or cig lighter) and replace trim. A little bit of filing on the upper windshield trim and your set (to make a notch for the cable).

I did the first one in my old Sol for a low mounted Whistler radar, where I had the radar sitting almost on the dash. Then 3 months ago I did the high mounted version for my Escort Passport 8500 with smart cord extension (no cig lighter plug, its easier to wire and has the remote status/mute). Both work nice and clean, and you don't have to have the stupid ashtray flap up.

Happy hacking!

You can also hardwire it thru the dash and into any power source as logn as its safe.

Just remember that you may need to mount high to avoid the windshield wiper arms, and also to be able to "see" out the back for rearward radar.
