Default Wiring Issue in EJ1. Help I have no music!

Hello,
I have a n 95 EJ1, when I got the car only the rear speakers would work, so I pulled the deck out and the front wires were cut off the harness. So I re-solder them and have all 4 speakers! 10 seconds later the deck goes out along with my clock. Can't get my deck to come on at all. Clock is on but very dim and resets every time I turn car off. I can't find a blown fuse under dash. Checked every single one. I have a little voltage tester, one that you clip to ground and you probe wires and the red light lights up. I was testing the wires in the stereo harness behind the deck, the 12v wire light up red, but the ignition wire lights it up very dim. As if my ignition wire isn't getting 100% power. Anyone ever had and issue like this? Can anyone help me please!

U have to have a blown fuse or a bad connection at the fuse, maybe a short some where from the fuse to the radio.

First go back check all your wires make sure there right. Then check the fuse in the fuse box under the hood. Look at the diagram should be the slot that reads back up.

The picture I got was that you split the rears to make 2 connections into 4, correct? Have you tried to plug just the two speakers back in instead of 4? Have you tried another head unit? (sounds a little extensive but might be worth it if you have a friend with spare)

well I have a spare head unit. But my clock is messed up to. resets every time I turn the car off. And yes only the rears were hooked up, so I hooked up the fronts also. But the wierd thing is that the cig lights still works. Head unit wont even power on. clock is really dim. In the stock stereo harness the 12v and ground is good but not the ignition power.

Note the color of the wire and follow it. Disconnect each connection you come to and re-test for power on the battery side of it. When you get to where you get full power, you know that the problem is between that point and the last point you tested. Feel the wire as you move along it. A warm segment of wire means a short. The fact that the clock is dim and the power wire has some but not much voltage leads me to believe a wire is shorted somewhere. You should perform your tests with a multimeter so you can see how low voltage is atm and where you get a good 11+ volts. When looking for a short you can also disconnect the positive battery terminal and then test power wires for continuity with the ground. I'd check the front speaker wires for shorts as well. Did you disconnect that low-voltage wire of yours from the head unit before testing it?

Yeah. I'm assuming the "ignition wire" is the wire to the head unit that has power when the key is turned.

correct. yes I disconnected it. when I was testing these wires the head unit was not installed, was just probing the harness.

YEAH! replaced fuse in under hood panel and it came back on, fixed my problem. But I only have rear speakes connected. Gonna try conecting fronts today and see what happens, what could it be if it blows again?

It's possible that you have some exposed wire somewhere. If it's touching metal, it's gonna short every time. If you re-connected wires you need to make sure there is no bare wire anywhere, wrap them with electrical tape. If it is touching metal and it doesn't short, that just means that it's heating up and is going to start something on fire soon. If you don't have any exposed wire, then I have no idea what it could be.

I don't wanna take out dash and cut up harness so if it does it again I'll just run new wire from doors to deck. that should fix it.

I'm sure we've all learned to disconnect the battery negative when doing electrical work on the car.
