Re: Will my motor be ok?!? (Chong)
15seconds?..you mean the entire situation with your downshift..or 15 seconds of worrying after you did it?.cause if you had a led foot for 15 seconds with the gas pedal down and the rpms to 9000...then you must have a horrible reaction time and shouldnt be driving in the first place..people will flame..so edit your shiznit or clarify your post..

Should be ok. But a suggestion since you have a p28, why don't you set fuel cut off/redline to a specified level so you don't do it again .

The general rule is that if it didn't already go pop right there and then... you'll be alright. The standard valvetrain in my experience can easily withstand 9000rpm every so often.

I went from about 70 in 5th to 2nd insted of 4th trying to pass, i floored it and felt like i hit the brakes insted of the gas, the tach pegged, no problems with it.

Yup, the main risk of doing that is floating a valve, you'll know immediately if that happens.

Exactly, it should be able to handle it if you don't beat on it daily. As long as you drive it well and keep it well maintained, you should be fine. Does anything sound/feel/drive different?

this is called a mechanical overrev.
there is NO protection against it.
the wheels are driving the engine. not the throttle.
