Wierd Transmission?
I have a 97 civic Hx auto that **** the bed so I bought a 99 civic auto trans from the local junkyard and when I brought it hom it looks completly different. The dipsticks are on oposite sides and the new trans has two Vtec solinoid looking things on it.
Can anyone tell me what the problem is?
I was told the trans from 96-00 are the same.

there should be a serial code on the trans casing. within that code it will tell you what tranny it is and from what car....

It's probably the CVT transmission that came in some HX civics from '96-'00.
CVT = Continuously Variable Transmission.
It's a very good concept if it wasn't "geared" (no pun intended) towards economy.

Re: Wierd Transmission? (Syndacate)
I currently have an Hx (CVT) transmission.
I called the junkyard I bought it from and he said its a so-called BASE tranny.
My new question is can I install this BASE tranny?
If anyone has info on this topic please let me know.

the tranny you bought bolts onto the car, but it will not work, you have a cvt tranny in the hx and you bought a regular 5 speed tranny from most likely a ex or dx 1999, you will have to do a lot more then just change out the tranny, you will have to buy a ex or dx auto ecu whichever you have, the hx ecu is built to work with the cvt not with the regular tranny's from the other models, you should return that tranny to the junk yard if at all possible and look for a hx auto tranny.

You need 96-98 trans, 99-00 are different with more sensors as you see
