Default Who says front lips aren't useful?

I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't experience it for myself but I recently switched to my 3rd lip now and have gained 3-4mpg based on my last 2 fillups. I do mostly 90% driving on the highway commuting 40 miles to work everyday. I do have the Spoon style rear wing and VX rear diffuser too. I haven't made any changes to the car within the past couple months except the lip. My driving habit has been the same(cruising between 70-80mph). Your mileage may vary depending on your setup.

BTW, I've tried original Mugen style lip, Wings West lip, and finally my Spoon style replica lip which seemed to worked the best and also reduced some noise. I've been averaging between 30-32 mpg with a mildly modified b16a/Y1 tranny combo with 205-50-15 tires and 1.5" drop. At $2.85/gal of premium around my area, this was something to get excited about.

nice... I never thought of the connection between front lip and gas mileage before this. I will have to keep an eye on my mileage when I get a lip.

What kind of car? How many miles are you getting to the tank?

I'm getting around 28 mpg, 310 miles to a tank, roughly. I am running a mugen style front lip, no rear diffuser, d16y8 with I/H. Interesting though...

EG Civic VX HB. This is with a b16a engine that dyno'd at 163 whp on a dynojet. Part of the good fuel economy is due to my tuned map that has been optimized over and over. If I ditched the high revving Y1 tranny(~4k at 70mph in 5th gear), I'm positive I can gain 3-4 mpg more. Not bad for a dohc.

I read in Super Street one time that Mugen is the only body kit company that actually tests their kit in a wind tunnel (b/c wind tunnels are expensive as hell). That is why the kits cost so much, b/c I guess in wind tunnel tests they offered the least resistance. It is weird that a replica lip would be better in MPG then an actual tested lip!

i'm going to remove the back parachute this weekend and see what the mpg gains / loses are.

if anyone has done this a gained 1-5 mpgs let me know.
consider ditch J's racing Intake and going AEM CAI. what do ya think on the saving goin g cold air or just run some piping to the ram air and make it CAI..... i might try that first

i dunno how the lip can cause more MPG, but then again, i was getting somewhere around 360 miles to tank in my d15 and after i put my intake on i can get 370 to the tank. and usually when i fill up i can toss in 10gallon of gas. so, whatever works

I can figure it out....the less air going under the car, the better. The lips prevent air from going under the car, and the air then hangs up on the rear bumper and that causes turbulence and slows the car down. Better aerodynamics, less force needed to move the car at the same rate than without the aerodynamic change.

I dont know why you got such a big bump, but that's interesting nonetheless.

how much did you pay for the Spoon style replica lip?

And are you 100% sure you gained that much mpg?? Do you usually fill up at the same gas station?

Is it possible? If yes, please tell me the way...

n1div, post photos of the front o ur car... on the highway it's easier to feel this result changes... I ever drive with intense trafic or neighbor streets... but almost ever at 8k rpm... hehehe... and for me it's a little difficult to comparing 'cause in Brazil we use Kilometers... I guess I have 280 miles to the tank w/ my stock B16...

How many octanes do u have in you gas?

If I wasn't wrong premium gas in Brazil have 96 or 97 octanes... but I'm not shure...

Wathever... I liked to know about this
