white smoke normal or not
99 b16a2 si
well before the car was doing the same thing. then i rebuilt the car with new rings bearings, but no valve seals. and new gaskets and such
well its about 10-20 degrees out here and whenver i start my car, it doesnt smoke then once it warms up it starts to smoke white smoke from the tailpipe
cars stock has 2.5 inch exhaust piping with the stock cat on it still
nowwhen im driving at a steady rate i dont see it
but one i take off at a red light like normal i can see big puff of smoke in my rear view, maybe its because of the cold i dont know
and when i rev it it smokes too
this is all when the car is warmed to full operating temps
could this be bad or is this normal
never noticed it in warmer weather

yeah, that sounds fine. the problem starts when you start seeing A LOT! of white smoke coming out at all times. that's when you stop driving, get a tow truck and get to work replacing the head gasket.

You could always check your compression. Compression testers are pretty cheap. Is the car using up coolant? Is there any oil in the coolant? Notice any loss in power?
Chances are it's nothing, but if your concerned about a head gasket start with those questions and run the tests.

According to Hmotors online, compression tests can't check head gaskets... lol... Least that's what the guy told me when I called to tell them they sent me a motor with a blown hg... oh well.
Anyway, compression test would be a good thing to do anyway. Cheap, easy and (at least for me) gives you a little more piece of mind about the health of your motor.

Like everyone else has said, this is normal in the winter when it is cold outside. If this happens in warm weather then you are in trouble.

I don't always listen to everyone else but yes it's probably the cold. I was just offering something to give him piece of mind, other than "everyone else said..."

Could be normal, but better safe than sorry. If it's a big cloud of smoke when you take off or rev up, I'd say that's not normal. After the exhaust system warms up, there should be minimal white smoke from the tailpipe. I would definitely do what EJ8 Man suggests. It's just good insurance. Even if it's nothing, at least you'll be sure. Try taking the radiator cap off and letting the motor idle. Check for any bubbles in the radiator, as this usually indicates a bad head gasket. They make test kits for this too.
