Depends on condition of car, how much you really like your car. alot of people rather spend 1-3k dollars on there car becuase in the long run its cheaper then a car payment ... just have to weigh the good with the bad when it comes to fixing your Ride

If you have a good toolset, access to some type of DIY instruction (i.e. AllData), and a free weekend or two, do it yourself for much less than 1-3k. If you want more info, PM me and I'll try to help you out as best as I can.

Or have someone help you. It's a great learning experiance if you plan to be working on cars down the road.

Absolutely. I started working on my car when I saw the quote for a headgasket job. Said "expletive it, I'm good with a wrench." And hey, I work at a shop now! Haha. But I digress. It's all good experience. I'll help you out with whatever info I can.

It could also be from head lift or a leaking intake manifold gasket, but I doubt it. I bet you have a head gasket leak.
When you crank it, do bubbles appear in the radiator? Does it start hard, if at all? Are you getting much lower, higher, or uneven compression readings compared to normal? If you answered yes to any of the above, it's most likely the head gasket.
