Default WHITE SMOKE!!!!??????

my car starting spitting white smoke outta the exaust. and when i drive it it sputters alot and wants to shut off if i dont rev it sometimes. what are the possibilities it could be to cause this. anything will help! thanks After a few miles the light started flashing and the engine now runs rough and seems to lack power. The temperature is fine though.

sorry dude, you're in for some pretty major work.

white smoke= coolant entering cylinder = blown head gasket.

give some history. has the car overheated recently? Thermostat ok? Do you have coolant dripping down your block? How quickly are you losing coolant?

Make sure your radiator cap is functioning, it can lead to blown hg-like symptoms. Ask me how i know

i think the last quote i heard about for a hg was about a grand. and it's always a good idea to replace your water pump and timing belt while you have that **** apart.

which wire?? but probably unrelated, unless it has something to do with your cooling system (not likely).

Sounds like a headgasket to me. Me and my dad replaced mine last week and got my head resurfaced and a valve job done. It totaled up to about $350 for the headwork and a full gasket set. We did the work ourselves so labor was free.

EDIT: x2 on that water pump and timing belt replacement. If you dont replace those two then it will most likely leak. ask me how i know

make sure its intact, a faulty radiator cap can lead to an under-pressurized cooling system, which can lead to water/smoke spewing out your exhaust.

The head gasket would produce BLUE smoke, NOT white. Your car would give you many symptoms if the headgasket is deteriorating. Like overheating, etc. Doesn't sound like your problem.

White (or gray) smoke is produced from an unhealthy fire from the cylinders. I suspect the wire that's loose is from one of the injectors. Can you take a snapshot of this loose wire?

It could be that somehow water is entering the intake. Make sure the diffuser isn't full of water, or your air filter isn't sopping wet.

to ivi:
not to be an *** or a dick..
why only blue? blue is from burning oil.. which "could" be a result from a bad head gasket.. usually blue smoke is valve seals, guides, or piston rings... but coolant leaking into the cylinder from the headgasket will burn white..
let your engine get to operating temp and drop some antifreeze on your exhaust manifold.. what color does it burn?
to op:
do a compression check.. post your results.. open your radiator cap while the engine is warming up.. do you see lots of bubbles? are you low on antifreeze?
stock engine? stock ecu?

you have a gas leak.. thats not safe for you or your engine.. running lean kills engines. a fire hazard if its warm enough.. ive seen a fuel injector o ring go bad and gas leak enough to hit the alternator and ignite..

Just from my experience when my head gasket blew. I was told by a reputable Honda tech about the colors too, guess he's not so reputable now

White smoke = coolant burn
Blue smoke = oil burn

dont pay more than $500 for a headgasket job... its a 5-6 hour job and the gasket is only $30.... i did my own headgasket in only 1 day.. (9am - 4pm) all by my self.. but i did a wack job..lol

why are you telling him it costs 500 bucks when you did it yourself. And changing a headgasket isn't something that should be a "whack job" there are so many things that can go horribly wrong if things aren't torqued down properly or are just put together half-assed. And like stated above and confirmed by other users, your water pump and timing belt should be replaced while you have this **** ripped apart.
