Whining noise from engine bay... not PS pump
I've recently developed a high pitch whining noise from the engine bay. I can't seem to locate it. I first thought it was the PS pump going because the noise resembles a failing pump, ie high pitch and gets louder as RPM's increase. But I took off the belt to drive the pump and the noise is still there. I don't think its tranny related either because when the car is in neutral the noise still exists. Any ideas!?

pop your hood and listen to what part of the bay its coming from. could be alt belt, loose pulley, vacuum leak, intake noise, etc.

there are several belts in the engine could be the alternator belt could be the timming belt if its aged. Is it comming from the drivers side where the belts are or from tranny side ! lube your belts and tighten the tensioners slightly If the whining noise is still there it has to be some thing else
