Default whining annoying sound when engine is on

yo HT. I'm hoping you guys can hopefully help me find my mysterious problem. I bought my 96 coupe a few months back for a steal, but never really noticed the whining sound. Whenever my car is on it sound like a bearing in ps pump pulley or In the ac condenser is going out. If you can imagine what an un oiled bearing sounds like or a tight belt sounds like thats basically the sound. If you've experienced this or have any ideas Id appreciate the info/advice.It makes the noise when transmission is not in gear also. Thats why I don't think its the tranny.belt to tight? bearing? compressor? please

just push on them, if you feel a lot of slack, loosen the tensioner bolt and tighten everything up.

it is not your timing belt.

^ Agreed its not the timing belt.

Possibly a alternator, PS or A/C pulley going bad also.

Easy way to find out which one it is that is making the noise. After tightening all the belts to no avail. Is to remove all accessory belts til you find the one whose giving you issues ( the alternator is not an accessory). This sounds hard but it isn't at all. You get some one on one with your car and you get to inspect your belts closely & change if worn.

Do Werk!

I checked the tension on my belts and they all seem to be the way they should be no slack at all.I was trying to get a better idea of where its at and it sounds like the growl/whine is coming from the ac compressor/the alternator is almost new and the noise doesnt sound like its coming from the back side. and the closer I put my ear to the ac it sounds like its the source. what would I replace the pulley on the compressor or the whole unit. i dont know if its a separate item.

Default OT: whining annoying sound when engine is on (IP RACING)

Of course, the title of this thread makes me ask the obvious joke ...

Did you try getting rid of the girlfriend/wife?

Seriously, on the A/C system - does it blow cold (i.e. it's full of freon) and how long has it been since it's been serviced (i.e. you may be out of oil, which is normally added with the freon.)

Good luck!

my ac pulley is whining, i know this because when i turn on my ac, it goes away. just picked up a compressor and CARB legal aem V2 for 100 bucks, so im stoked. good luck with your issue.

i had a b16 that would do this too, but had no accesories. it was the alternator.

there are OEM like faulty parts from Auto Parts Stores. Think ricer parts... this is why there's ranges in price at the store. Wack to Baller. That Alt could be a ill *** rebuild bro. In this case if it is replace the whole Alt (since you said the belts are tight, could mean the set screw is cutting into the shaft or find reciept for the the one you just put it recently.

DO the belt trick I was telling you about..

remove the a/c belt and see if its still doing it..

if not the a/c clutch is bad. whole unit would be replaced by professional HVAC person. Oil n Freon involved as stated.

bright side dont need to buy one right now, just leave the belt off til you can. the latter you'll be hot.

I removed my power steering belt and whine was still there. I was going to remove the ac belt but wasnt exactly sure how to do I remove the single pulley In the center of the belt. the one thats bolt is removable from reaching behind the drivers wheel.Or is there an AC tensioner.

did you check your alternator belt? maybe i missed that post. whenever mined whistled it was that.

also is it whistling or a high-pitched shrieking?

edit: Also, if it is a belt you can get a bar of soap and with the engine running put the bar of soap under the belt and it will lubricate it.

its not a whistle it sounds like a growling/whining noise. if you have ever had a skateboard sounds basically like a bearing that has dirt stuck in it.

same issue here, whining noise from the engine, took off the power steering pump belt, to no avail, tomorrow morning i'll have to take off the AC belt to see if this stops, i just had the water pump and timing belt and tensioner pully replaced because of this and that didnt help either. So i am pretty sure this is the AC clutch, is there a way to oil this thing somehow?

its just like the op states, bearing running without oil noise.

Oh well, lets keep this posted.

also, the belts are a pain in the *** to work with, the power steering belt has to come off first then the ac belt, working with rusty screws.
