Re: where and what type of cat
I have a 1996 Honda Civic (two door variant) with an Acura Integra LS motor. When I purchased the vehicle, I found the previous owner(s) had removed the catalytic converter, in a vain attempt to create a completely open exhaust route.
I am now due to renew my emissions verification, and will not qualify as a road-worthy vehicle with this missing element. I connected the two ends with a hollow tube, but this is hardly a catalytic converter, obviously.
This vehicle has an aftermarket exhaust header, and I would like to avoid modification thereof. Will the catalytic converter of an Acura Integra fit a Honda Civic, or do the mating surfaces differ, as well as length? Shall I visit the local salvage lot, or perhaps the primary tradesmen for Honda cars and parts?

Re: where and what type of cat
Keep in mind a junkyard is not allowed to sell used catalytic converters. The federal government would like you to replace yours with one that will be as efficient as possible, thus a new one. The dealership will want six hundred or so dollars for a catalytic converter, maybe as little as three hundred.
Whether or not an Integra has a different flange is unknown to me.
I'd recommend going to a muffler/exhaust shop and having a universal catalytic converter welded into place. It will cost about 225 or so, depending on brand and such. But, if you would like a new Honda OEM bolt-on catalytic converter, which may no longer fit due to the previous owner's modification, be sure to get it from an online dealer such as Majestic Honda. Local dealerships seem to charge over even Majestic Honda's "list" price!
