When do you know that its time to change your brake lines?

I would just say if most obviously if you are loosing brake fluid in any area that is rubber, and secondly if you see cracks along the lines and or crimps and breaking in the lines.

Normally we wouldnt have to change them unless we do a lot of hard sudden braking right?

I've never knew anybody who had to change brake lines because of maintenance.

You need to change them when they burst and you plow head-on into a semi at 75 mph.

Brake lines are not something that usually go bad with normal use. If you park in knee-high wet grass every night, then maybe you should look into replacing them. Other than that .... they shouldn't ever wear out.

yah rust gets the best of them. Especially where i live. They use liquid salt brine on the roads during the winter which sprays everywhere that the rock salt couldn't which sux.

I broke the front driver brake line on my old Acura Legend. Luckly I was able to just gear down and use my hand brake but it sorta scares me to think about what would have happend if there were other cars. Car had about 170k on it and was in great condition.

This thread has gotten me worried again. Anyone know what a decent price is for braided lines? Anyone make their own?

There's a brake shop in my town that makes them. I used to regularly fack one of the tech's sisters ... so I haven't been there in a while

Any sign of cracks anywhere on a rubber hose, they need to be replaced. Another obvious sign is soft squishy spots in the rubber. They will go bad, maybe not to the point of failing, but they do deteriorate.
