Wheel locks with no KEY! How to get them off?
I already searched... I saw a thread in this forum where someone had a similar problem. Here's the deal. I found a set of some old school rims for my girlfriends car at a local junk yard, but it has wheel locks on them. I searched the entire car, but couldnt find the key. Some people said to weld a nut to the lock and just use a tire iron to take it out. I dont have a welder, nor can the car be moved at the junkyard, so taking it to a tire place to do it is not an option. When I searched people said they sacrificed a socket and hammered it on the lock and just used a breaker bar to get it out. My question with that is that I have to sacrifice 4 sockets one for each lock? The locks are a round cylinder style where there is a specific pattern at the top, and I assume the key fits into the pattern, while the rest of it slides over the sides. If anyone has any other methods please let me know. Oh by the way the car is already lifted off the ground, and that will make it way more difficult. Since there are a lot of thieves now, u guys can PM me a solution so it does not go public making it easier for thieves. TIA

Oh a friend just brought to my attention that I may be able to use a "gator grip" socket, but will it grip on something that is cylindrical vs. hexagonal?

Remove the entire hub assembly with the wheel still attached? Then take it to a wheel/tire shop. I dunno.

They make tools for this.
Its like this socket:
But it has teeth that dig into the lugnut and let you remove it. ITs a bitch and a half to get it OUT of the socket though when your done.
Maybe thats this "gator grip" I dont know. Or is that the multiuse socket with the pins? I dont think that would work well with a lugnut, not designed for that.
