Wheel bearing hub?
I failed inspection for what I was told is a tie rod with too much play, but upon having someone I know look to make sure that's what it is, he said it's a wheel bearing hub? Is this an easy fix, or alot of work? does anyone know the tools or having instructions on how to replace this?
Thanks in advance all.

your best bet is to take it to a shop you trust and have them replace it.

Wheel bearing would be making a loud noise everytime it rotates or if you lift your car up you could shake the wheel as if the wheel feels like its going to fall off. Usually you cant do the 2nd when the axle is bolted down.
Wheel bearings are time consuming jobs and involve the use of a press.

not always, there is a tool that looks like a big screw with a bunch of plates that allows you to do it in about 15 minutes. Not sure what's its actually called (on the car press?), but allows you to use an impact gun to pull the spindle off, then get the wheel bearing out, and then press the new one in. Much easier than taking the knucke off and then trying to hold it in a press.

Hmm, perhaps it is the wheel bearing. It doesn't make a load noise everytime it rotates, but I have noticed strange noises when backing out of my driveway (they seem to go away after that).
Yesterday it made a loud popping noise. I thought I had hit something at first.

Are you talking about this tool on the bottom (Called a Slide hammer):
If so then this will not take off a wheel bearing, only the hub.

Re: (KHowe)
Is there a quick way to check whether my problem is a tie rod or a wheel hub? I was told to jack up the car, and if the wheel has play from side to side but not up and down (vertically) then it's only a tie rod.
Also, does my Civic's wheel hub need to be pressed, or is it bolt on?

jack the car up, ok good first step done! Now, take a hold of the wheel/ tire ..use two hands (one on top, one on the bottom). If there is any up and down movment (often it is slight, but you can also see the brake rotor move a little) then yes, you need a new wheel bearing (doing mine tonight!). Try switching, place one hand on the right of the wheel/tire and the other on the left and see if there is any movment side to side. If so then its the tie-rod. Also, if your wheel bearing is bad you should notice some (or alot if its f'ed!) when you drive (almost like somthing is rubbing) good luck dood!

Re: (slowly slipping away)
Thanks alot for the help guys, I'm going to take another look at it tonight.
I hope this doens't get expensive, any estimation on cost for parts?
Does this require a press?

I p/u a bearing for like $55 at the local parts house. You do need to have it pressed (save your sanity and have it pressed!) it will run you about $35 on the average-..be careful not to F'up those threaded ball joints!

mines is doing the same thing, at about 30mph it sounds like unbalanced tires, 40mph it sounds like something scraping, and at 60mph it sounds like the wheel is wobbling every direction about to fall off, not to mention allignment is off too. same wheel bearing issue? i've replace the rear wheel bearing assembly (preassembled that is) for an accord before with disc brakes, same for integra?
it's a 94 gsr and i suspect the driver front because that's where the noise is coming from.

forgot to mention there wasn't any play on the hub either... you kinda hear a dragging like metal to metal noise when tires rotate on jack stand, any suggestions?
